RE: Byrne Formula Grant Letter
ISSUE
Should the Honorable Mayor and Board of City Commissioners authorize the Mayor to sign the
Byrne Formula Grant Letter allowing the City of Ocoee to receive $38,000 to be used toward a
DUI enforcement program.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
This year, the Substance Abuse Evaluation Committee and the Substance Abuse Policy Board
wishes to submit the attached Byrne Formula Grant Letter to the Office of Criminal Justice
Grants in Tallahassee. This letter lists the various programs for which participating agencies wish
to receive Federal Fiscal Year 2004 Byrne Grant Formula funds. The City of Ocoee Police
Department wishes to fund a DUI Enforcement program (a new officer's position) with its share
of the funds.
This would be the first year of a four-year maximum that these funds could be used for this
program. If future funds were to be made available under this grant, it would not be until
October, 2005. As in previous years, this grant requires a 25% match from the City of Ocoee
(which will come from the 2004-2005 budget General fund).
RECOMMENDATION
It is respectfully recommended that the Honorable Mayor and Board of City Commissioners
authorize the Mayor to sign the Byrne Formula Grant Letter allowing the City of Ocoee to
receive $38,000 to be used towards a DUI enforcement program.
