HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-09-2019 Minutes MINUTES OF THE CITIZEN ADVISORY COUNCIL FOR THE OCOEE FIRE DEPARTMENT MEETING HELD MAY 9,2019 I: CALL TO ORDER CACOFD meeting was called to order by Member Vaughn at 6:02 pm in Station 25 Training Room located at 563 S. Bluford Avenue. A: Pledge of Allegiance was performed. B:Roll Call and Determination of Quorum: Secretary Peiffer performed roll call and declared quorum(8)met. In attendance(8): Members: Channell, Vaughn, Lawrie, Richardson, Hodge,Cristian and West, II. Non-Voting Present: Secretary Peiffer and Deputy Chief Yancy Cleveland Absent(2): Members: Orme and Lovejoy C: Review Agenda for Tonight's Meeting: Chair Vaughn reviewed the agenda for tonight. D. Review of Minutes: Minutes from the February 21, 2019 meeting were reviewed. Motion made by Member Gillis, seconded by Member Richardson,and unanimously passed to approve the minutes. II: BUSINESS FOR DISCUSSION A: Old Business: Chair Vaughn discussed the purchase the retirement tokens from our committee that we give to retired employees from the previous year, there are 3 in reserve, and 2 that have already been printed up.There is about$1000. in our budget. If someone sees a need for something that would benefit the department or community, it needs to be brought forth. The Open House was good with approximately 400 people that attended in a wide variety of ages. Participation was way above average. The Awards ceremony on May rd for "Firefighter of the Year"award was very well represented. B: Under Construction—City Growth: Chair Vaughn discussed some of the businesses and buildings currently under construction:the Cheerleading and Gymnastics Center that will be located across the street from the Fire Department, Waffle House will be breaking ground in July,the Ocoee Business Park, Franklin Street, Inspired Living which will be close to the hospital,Ladybird Academy on West Rd,Tijuana Flats on Maguire, a 4-story building coming to Franklin Street. C: Upcoming Events: Chair Vaughn discussed the son of firefighter that passed away. He is in FFA and had a steer in the fair which was purchased for a Barbeque;the funds raised will go to support the youth in several different activities. The event is being held at the Elks club, Saturday,the 11th @ 4:00. The Citizens Advisory Council's Ice Cream Social has no date as of yet, and the issue will be revisited at the next meeting. From June 1st thru August 30th the hurricane season is in effect,and there will be printed material coming from Orange County Emergency Services. Van Camp to give us pointers.As swimming lessons are being made available from the city, there may be a need for CPR with summer coming and children being out of school with their parents working. The City will be hiring lifeguards for pool. D: Transport Update: Chief Cleveland. Transport was started January 1st this year, and the department has been doing well. There are 2 transport units running with the 4 existing engines,rescue 25 and one out of station 26 on Clarke Road. There is an average of 10 - 12 transports a day,with the Peak Unit put into service as needed. There is a contract with Windemere for fire service,but they currently have AMR doing their transports. There are approximately 250 billable transports per month,per Alicia Peiffer,the Transport Billing Coordinator. The budget will be allocated to move forward with another rescue unit, so there will be 4 very new rescue units. Transport has overall been very successful. Engine 39 will be replaced and it will be used as a reserve engine,giving the department 2 reserve engines. Eventually, a ladder/tower truck will be added as well.
