RE: Transfer From Contingency—Educational Program
ISSUE
The line item funding the Educational Incentive Program in the Human Resources Department
budget for FY 2003/04 has been depleted and additional funding is necessary to continue the
program for the remainder of the fiscal year.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
The Educational Incentive Program provides funding for employees to pursue course work
related to their job or to the long-range value of the employee to the City. Costs have been
higher this year as program participants are seeking Master's level degrees and public safety
certifications that are more costly than standard AA/AS or BA/BS levels. Contingency balance
as of July 22, 2004 is $88,000. Balance after this request would be $80,000.
RECOMMENDATION
The Human Resources Director recommends$8,000.00 be transferred from contingency into the
Human Resources Department budget line item funding the City's Educational Incentive
Program for the remainder of the fiscal year.
