The change is being pushed by newcomers and R. Bracy. This is the wrong move if they believe this will serve to improve relations; rather it will cause division rather than unity. Ocoee leadership has exerted much effort in the past years to encourage treatment of all its citizens with respect. The issue is one of emotions; the pro-change people are emotional about memorializing Mr. Perry by renaming a road which has been Bluford for many decades. The ones against renaming are emotional about keeping the name as it has been probably for as long as there has been an Ocoee. But break this down to economics. The cost associated with a rename goes way beyond changing street signs.A partial list of issues to be addressed are: maps; national websites (I looked up a business on their website which showed Bluford as a reference). The GPS system; changes to directions for emergency vehicles. Postal addresses. Property records-county tax,surveys. On and on; the cost has to be overwhelming.And there will always be some confusion for years to come. Please do not change Bluford! I am sure the other two commissioners will vote for it.
