Krystal Parker President Central Florida Christian Chamber Thank you so much for an exceptional workshop on Leadership and Diversity. I'm not just saying that since you exceeded our expectations and our expectations were very high to begin with. Getting the class involved was the key to this successful experience_ I particularly liked the introductions exercise at the beginning. Your "laid back" method of interaction was "just what the doctor ordered." You have a great friendly smile that draws people to you. You shared great stories. You used great humor. What great examples of the FedEx arrow, the BigTen Conference, and the Baskin Robbins logo! Great videos! Great demographics and statistics. I appreciated the individual's path to cultural competency. Great discussion on the approaches to diversity. The second exercise was also excellent. Thanks for being here. Examples: No ceiling fans, no ventilation in the garage that gets well above 120 degrees, poor electrical work according to an electrician currently working for Ace but formerly working for Lennar, no sprinklers in the backyard, one pool that allows residences from Arden Park South and Arden Park North to attend which is about 500 homes and about 300 more homes coming (how many people do you think live in 500 to 800 homes?) and the list goes on and on.There needs to be three steps taken: 1. New homes must not be allowed to be built at this time 2. An independent professional who is completely independent of Lennar but paid for by Lennar needs to come up with the list you are looking for which will no doubt exceed 100 pages. 3. Therefore, listed below are the items that I would like to see as a "Condition for Approval". 1) Raised bed landscape buffer. 2) Landscape is to be kept in HOA condition (i.e.: no dead grass, maintain trees and bushes). 3) A thirty foot buffer with established trees in the Willows on the Lake sub division was removed by K. Hovnanian when the land was cleared along with a chain link fence. Due to this loss of property that was taken away, I would like to see the proposed wall to be raised to eight feet to mitigate this loss and protect our sub division. Thank you for your consideration. Please confirm receipt and advise the date and time of the Firestone Meeting. As a resident in District #4 I sincerely hope you are against this proposal. Approving a Firestone Store will, in no way, improve the quality of life in this residential area. As I understand, Winter Garden had the good sense to vote against this proposal. In the Silver Star/Clarke Road crossroads there are two auto parts stores, one Valvoline store, Exxon/Mobile with car wash and BP station. I strongly believe and I am sure many others will agree with me, that that land would be better suited to another type of business than auto repair. To whom it may concern, I am writing this letter because I am deeply concerned about the idea of another'auto related'store being considered for the North East area of the Silver Star&Clarke Rd intersection. I have lived in this area for 31 years. My adult children do as well. I want to be heard loud &clear that my voting will reflect the decision that is made. The LAST thing we need is a tire store! We have only 2 choices for fast food in this area.We could certainly use a food type business and would be grateful for a decision more in line w the pulse of the community. Melanie Sibbitt: Please disregard the earlier copy of my presentation for tonight's meeting, and replace it with this one. Thank you. Randolph Bracy Jr. 1 A prepared statement to the Ocoee City Commission By Randolph Bracy, Jr. Tuesday, August 4, 2020 George Santayana once said: "A people who do not know their history are doomed to repeat it." It was 1971, nearly fifty (50) years ago when I first came to the town of Ocoee and Ocoee High School as chief recruiter of the University of Florida for Black freshmen. Then, I had an eerie and unsettling feeling. School officials were nice, but I could tell that they were going through the motions, and what I was seeing was very superficial, and that I was merely being tolerated. The only good thing I remember about Ocoee was the success of my recruitment. I don't remember her name, but I recruited the first Black female freshman from this community to attend the University of Florida. While recruiting, I had heard that the town of Ocoee had a bad name among Black people because of what had happened many years earlier; however at the time I did not know the full extent or the history, but I did know that Ocoee was a place that a Black man needed to get in and get out before sundown. Fast forward to 2016 and my incredulity when my son approached me that he was going to purchase a home in Ocoee. I remember asking him, "Did he know the history of July Perry or how he was lynched for voting in 1920? Did he know the horrible history of the Ku Klux Klan and and how the settlement where Black people lived was burned to the ground in Ocoee?" Now fast forward to last month's July 2020 Ocoee City Commission meeting when my son, Senator Randolph Bracy, Ill, made a presentation regarding a proposed event commemorating and celebrating the life and legacy of July Perry on the Saturday before the November 2020 election. I was literally blown away at the lack of decorum and integrity by Mayor Rusty Johnson - who in a public forum accused my son of lying about his address. What I saw and heard at last month's Commission meeting took me back to that time nearly 50 years ago, and the ominous feeling I had when I first came to this town. I left that meeting with the feeling that little has changed, and the town of Ocoee still has a long way to go to repair its terrible image.
