Sunshine Law Review
1. The Board Clerk forgot to notice a meeting. She e-mailed the Agenda to the Board but
failed to notice the Public. Did she violate the Sunshine?
2. Does Sunshine Law require minutes for every meeting: regular meetings, emergency
meetings, sub-committee meeting OR only meetings where a vote is taken?
3. You just received a group text from someone connected to the Board. Should you a)
reply and join in on the discussion – adding your input is vital to the group. b) politely
suggest we talk about this at the next Council meeting. c) ignore the text, and address
your concern at the next Council meeting.
4. The Board decided to meet up at Starbuck and wrap-up a few items that needs further
direction/clarification – that could not wait until the next scheduled meeting due to
deadlines. Did they violate Sunshine Law?
5. It has come to the Chairperson attention that they have an emergency item and need to
meet right away. Should she: a) Text everyone and call a meeting at a Public location
such as the Library. b) Contact the Recording Clerk share her thoughts and request an
emergency meeting.
6. While at the game Friday night, multiple members run into each other. One member
asks for the other opinion on a topic discussed at the last meeting. She is conflicted and
not sure how to vote. She just wants to fully understand and make a good decision. Did
she violate Sunshine Law?
7. Prom is just around the corner and multiple Board members attend the same high
school. John has decided he wants to go, so he sends out an e-mail informing the other
members that he has already purchased his ticket, and due to Sunshine Law, no one else
can go! How was the Sunshine Law violated? Can all of the Board members attend the
Prom? What should not be discussed at the Prom?
