HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-20-2020 Proclamation - State Road 438 Road Designation Proclamation WHEREAS, Julius “July” Perry was a long-time resident of Orange County, the Settlement of Ocoee, and State of Florida; and WHEREAS, Julius “July” Perry was a faithful and dedicated servant of Orange County and the Settlement of Ocoee, having served as a Civil Rights Leader in the African American Community; and WHEREAS, Julius “July” Perry held a position of distinction at the Worshipful Master of Ocoee Lodge #66 and was a member in good standing under the auspices of the Most Worshipful Union Grand Lodge Most Ancient and Honorable Fraternity, Free and Accepted Masons, State of Florida and Belize Central America, Jurisdiction, Incorporated Prince Hall Affiliated, Founded in 1870; and WHEREAS, Julius “July” Perry was a Labor leader and a Deacon in the African Methodist Episcopal Church Northern Methodist Quarters; and WHEREAS, Julius “July” Perry provided continued professional leadership, guidance, devoted service and outstanding contributions as a Civil Rights Leader from 1886 to 1920; and WHEREAS, Julius “July” Perry, through his active, personal involvement with Orange County, the Settlement of Ocoee, both in official and unofficial capacities, had a profoundly positive influence on the lives of many in West Orange County. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the Ocoee City Commission does hereby acknowledge and support the State of Florida’s designation of a portion of State Road 438, extending from Clarke Road to the western city limits of Ocoee, posthumously to Julius “July” Perry Highway for his dedicated years of community service and the many contributions he made to Orange County and the City of Ocoee.
