HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-23-2020 Minutes MINUTES OF THE CITIZENS ADVISORY COUNCIL FOR OCOEE POLICE DEPARTMENT MEETING HELD JANUARY 23, 2020 CALL TO ORDER Chairperson Garone called the meeting to order at 7:06PM. Chairperson Garone led the Invocation and Pledge of Allegiance. Recording Clerk Serrano called roll and determined a quorum present. PRESENT Chairperson Garone, Member Ball, Member Lewis, Member Orme, Member Anderson, Member Braunskill and Member Brown. Also present were Lt. Scott Nylander, Lt. Mireya lannuzzi, and Recording Clerk Serrano ABSENT Members: Hill, Lovejoy, Simon, Lomneck, Mann APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM NOVEMBER 21, 2019, MEETING Member Lewis made a motion to approve the minutes, seconded by Chairperson Garone. The motion was passed unanimously. HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATION ENGAGEMENT Chairperson Garone updates the board on meeting with the HOAs. 09/11 ANNIVERSARY EVENT The board agreed to brainstorm locations, and to have Member Brown lead this event. SURVEY UPDATE Member Anderson informed the board he will forward potential questions via the Recording Clerk for the board to review. AWARD NOMINATIONS Chairperson Garone opened the discussion and the board reviewed the nominations. Officer of the 4th Quarter—there were one nomination received. Chairperson Garone made a motion to nominate the only Officer of the 4th Quarter nomination, second by Member Lewis. The motion was unanimous. Volunteer of the Year—there were one nomination received. Chairperson Garone made a motion that Caleigh Barton and Landen Sanders receive Volunteer of the Year, seconded by Member Lewis. The motion passed unanimously. Chairperson Garone made a motion to purchase an additional$25.00 gift card for Volunteer of the Year, seconded by Member Braunskill. The motion passed unanimously. Officer of the Year—there were nine nominations received. Member Lewis nominated the first entry for Officer of the Year, no second was received. The motion failed due to lack of a second. Member Anderson nominated Det. Matthew Serrao, who was the Officer of the 3rd Quarter as Officer of the Year, seconded by Member Braunskill. The motion passed 4-3. Members Lewis, Brown, and Bruanskill, opposing. Civilian of the Year—there were four nominations received. Member Ball motioned to nominate Accreditation Specialist Kim Renk for Civilian of the Year, seconded by Chairperson Garone. The motion passed unanimously. Chairperson Garone made a motion for the board to create an award for the Civilian of the Quarter going forward, and set the award to$50.00, seconded by Member Brown. The motion passed unanimously. TREASURER REPORT As Member Lomneck was not present, Recording Clerk Serrano updated the board, the account balance was $725. DEPARTMENT UPDATES Lt. Nylander briefed the board on upcoming events;the Department will send the wrapped American flag car, and one of the brand-new Yamaha motorcycles to display at a friendly competition car show in Oviedo. In March, the department will hold a free car seat inspection event for the public. The second annual Shred to Protect event will also be in March, the Department will partner with the Lions Club, and Rotary to hold this event. Lt. Nylander announces new changes to patrol, there will now be 6 patrol squads and two new deputy chiefs starting in March. Lt. Nylander invited the board to setup a table at Spring Fling in March. Chairperson Garone motioned the board to spend$200.00 to reorder promotional clips used during last year's Spring Fling, seconded by Member Knox. The motion passed unanimously. BOARD OFFICER ELECTIONS Chairperson Garone motioned the board to table elections to the March meeting, seconded by Member Ball. The motion passed unanimously. SET NEXT AGENDA a. HOA Engagement COMMENTS/QUESTIONS FROM THE PUBLIC Victoria Laney addressed the board regarding her concerns with minutes from previous meetings. ADJOURNMENT Declared by Chairperson Garone at 8:11PM.
