Subject: Trade-In of surplus equipment.
Background Summary:
Between 2005 and 2007 the Fire Department has replaced out-dated fire hose and nozzles for more efficient
and effective equipment. This has created a surplus of out-dated and inefficient equipment that is no longer
needed, or can be used by the Department.
Issue:
The equipment would either normally be made available for surplus sale, or donated to another Fire
Department. Elkhart Brass Fire Fighting Equipment, Inc. has offered to exchange the equipment for new
equipment that is suitable for our current needs. The equipment would serve no useful purpose to the public.
The equipment is only expected to earn several hundred dollars through surplus auction.
Recommendations
Staff recommends that the City Commission declare the equipment as surplus and approve the trade-in of the
surplus equipment to Elkhart Brass for new equipment.
Attachments:
Equipment list.
Financial Impact:
The current out-dated equipment is valued at $200-$300 dollars through surplus auction. Elkhart Brass is willing
to accept the equipment on trade for (3) Model B-278-L 2 %" Playpipes, and (2) Model 4000-24 250 @ 50
Combination Fog Tips, valued at $2.015.00.
