A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF OCOEE TO ACTIVELY SUPPORT THE
OBJECTIVES OF THE STAKEHOLDER TASK
FORCE AND ACTIVELY PARTICIPATE TO RESTORE THE
CANOPY AND PRESERVE THE CHARACTER OF THE
WEST ORANGE TRAIL; PROVIDING FOR
SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the West Orange Trail (hereafter the "Trail") is a crown jewel of Orange
County; and
WHEREAS,the Trail is important to the well-being of our community; and
WHEREAS, the Trail was critical to the physical health and mental well-being of our
community during the COVID-19 pandemic; and
WHEREAS,the Trail attracts visitors to the area to our economic advantage; and
WHEREAS, the character should be preserved; and
WHEREAS, a West Orange Trail Stakeholder Task Force has been created to actively
protect the character of the Trail through common design standards and overlays; and
WHEREAS, the Stakeholder Task Force also plans to coordinate restoration of canopy
gaps that have been created by development along the Trail; and
WHEREAS, the Stakeholder Task Force will include Orange County, City of Apopka,
Town of Oakland, City of Winter Garden, and the City of Ocoee; and
WHEREAS,the Stakeholder Task Force also plans to collaborate with local not-for-profit
organizations;including Healthy West Orange,Bike/Walk Central Florida,West Orange Chamber
of Commerce, and Friends of Lake Apopka; to restore the tree canopy and preserve the character
of the West Orange Trail.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF OCOEE, FLORIDA:
NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED; The City of Ocoee will actively support
the objectives of the Stakeholder Task Force and actively participate to restore the tree canopy
and preserve and enhance the character of the West Orange Trail.
SECTION1.AUTHORITY. The City Commission of the City of Ocoee has the authority
to adopt this Resolution pursuant to Article VIII of the Constitution of the State of Florida and
Chapter 166, Florida Statutes.
SECTION 2. STAKEHOLDER TASK FORCE. The City Commission of the City of
Ocoee hereby adopts this resolution to provide for the City of Ocoee's active support of the
objectives of the Stakeholder Task Force and the City of Ocoee's participation to restore the tree
canopy along certain areas of the Trail and preserve and enhance the character of the Trail.
SECTION 3. SEVERABILITY. If any clause, section, or other part of this Resolution
shall be held by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or invalid, such
unconstitutional or invalid part shall be considered as eliminated and in no way affecting the
validity of other provisions of this Resolution.
SECTION 4. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its passage and adoption.
