HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 96-07 RESOLUTION NO. 96-07 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF OCOEE, FLORIDA, IN SUPPORT OF PROPOSED LEGISLATION AMENDING SECTION 336.025, FLORIDA STATUTES, IN ORDER TO PROVIDE A LOCAL MECHANISM FOR REVIEWING AND REVISING THE METHOD OF DISTRIBUTION OF LOCAL OPTION GAS TAX REVENUES WHEREAS, Orange County and the City of Orlando have entered into an Interlocal Agreement for the distribution of local option gas tax revenues (the "the Interlocal Agreement"); and WHEREAS, the Interlocal Agreement provides that Orange County and Orlando retain 60% and 30%, respectively, of the local option gas tax revenues with the remaining 10% being distributed to other eligible municipalities in Orange County in accordance with their populations as determined on the basis of the 1980 census; and WHEREAS, the method of distribution of the local option gas tax revenues set forth in the Interlocal Agreement is inequitable and fails to provide a mechanism for adjustment based on population changes; and WHEREAS, legislation has been drafted which would provide a mechanism for addressing the inequities in the Interlocal Agreement. NOW, THEREFORE, Be It Resolved by the City Commission of the City of Ocoee that it strongly endorses the draft bill attached hereto as Exhibit "A" which would amend Section 336.025, Florida Statutes, in order to provide a local mechanism for reviewing and revising the method of distribution of local gas tax revenues and that the Orange County Legislative Delegation be strongly encouraged to support such legislation. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this Resolution be provided to each member of the Orange County Legislative Delegation. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Cities of Apopka and Winter Garden be strongly encouraged to adopt resolutions in support of the above-referenced draft legislation.
