RESOLUTION NO. 96-07
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF OCOEE, FLORIDA, IN
SUPPORT OF PROPOSED LEGISLATION AMENDING
SECTION 336.025, FLORIDA STATUTES, IN ORDER TO
PROVIDE A LOCAL MECHANISM FOR REVIEWING AND
REVISING THE METHOD OF DISTRIBUTION OF LOCAL
OPTION GAS TAX REVENUES
WHEREAS, Orange County and the City of Orlando have
entered into an Interlocal Agreement for the distribution of local
option gas tax revenues (the "the Interlocal Agreement"); and
WHEREAS, the Interlocal Agreement provides that Orange
County and Orlando retain 60% and 30%, respectively, of the local
option gas tax revenues with the remaining 10% being distributed to
other eligible municipalities in Orange County in accordance with
their populations as determined on the basis of the 1980 census;
and
WHEREAS, the method of distribution of the local option
gas tax revenues set forth in the Interlocal Agreement is
inequitable and fails to provide a mechanism for adjustment based
on population changes; and
WHEREAS, legislation has been drafted which would provide
a mechanism for addressing the inequities in the Interlocal
Agreement.
NOW, THEREFORE, Be It Resolved by the City Commission of
the City of Ocoee that it strongly endorses the draft bill attached
hereto as Exhibit "A" which would amend Section 336.025, Florida
Statutes, in order to provide a local mechanism for reviewing and
revising the method of distribution of local gas tax revenues and
that the Orange County Legislative Delegation be strongly
encouraged to support such legislation.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this Resolution be
provided to each member of the Orange County Legislative
Delegation.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Cities of Apopka and
Winter Garden be strongly encouraged to adopt resolutions in
support of the above-referenced draft legislation.
