Commissioner
George Oliver Ill
District 4 To The Honorable Ocoee City Commission
It is with a since of good will and hope that I write this letter. We live in very
challenging and transitional times, so much that we often miss opportunities to
appreciate the people in the city that we love so dearly.
After careful review of the proposed American Rescue Plan Act(ARPA)project list,
I must say that I was extremely disappointed when I didn't see any allocation for
social services.Although the proposed projects are much needed and sits high on our
priority list,I contend that a small percentage of these funds could be used in one of
the following ways:
1. Small Business Matching Grants
(i) Women owned and operated business
(ii).Relief for small businesses in West Oaks Mall
(iii)Attracting small community-based business
(iv)Supporting local non-profit organizations
2. School Based Programs
(i) PTA
(ii) SAC
(iii)School based programs(e.g.,tutoring,reading, and math programs)
(iv)Extra-curricular activities for Middle and High School Students
3. Youth Programs
(i) Local programs that support the education on civics
(ii) After school care
(iii)Youth Sports Programs
4. Social Services
(i) Help with rent
(ii) Help for homelessness
(iii)Help with utility bills
