DEPARTMENT IIELD NOVEMBER 179 2022
I. CALL TO ORDER
Chairperson Vaughn called the meeting to order at 6:OSPM, in the Station 25 Conference
Room, located at 563 S. Bluford Avenue, Ocoee,
Chairperson Vaughn led the Pledge of Allegiance; a moment of silence followed.
Recording Clerk Serrano performed roll call and declared a quorum present.
Present: Chairperson Vaughn, Members Channell, Richardson, Legvoid and Kepler.
Absent: Member Moyer (absent excused)
Also Present: Commissioner Firstner, Chief Smothers and Recording Clerlc Serrano.
II. Approval of CACOFD Meeting Minutes from August 11, 2022 and August 25, 2022
Member Richardson made a motion to appc°ove the minutes of the August 11, 2022 meetingL
seconded by Member Legvold. The motion carried unanimoicsl.
Member Claannell made a motion to approve the minutes of the August 25, 2022 meeting
seconded by Member Richardson. The motion carried unanimously.
III. BUSINESS FOR DISCUSSION
A. Old Business:
Chairperson Vaughn requested an update on Accreditation, Chief Smothers advised that
all required documentation was submitted within the deadline.
Chairperson Vaughn commended Chief Smothers on being a fully staffed agency.
B. New Business:
Chairperson Vaughn opened the discussion on awarding Fire Fighter of the Year, the
Board reviewed the nominations received. Chief Smothers provided background on the
nominees clarified that two of the three nominations were for the same individual.
Discussion ensued. Chairperson Vaughn directed that the board submit blind votes to
Recording Clerk Serrano, the Board awards Firefighter of the Year to Eng. Nicholas
Gutschick.
Chairperson Vaughn inquired on the status of the annual Christmas Parade and Operation
Santa. Commissioner Firstner advised he would confirm if and when the parade is taking
place. Chief Smothers confirmed that Operation Santa is on schedule to take place over
three weeks, the schedule will be provided to the Board.
Chairperson Vaughn asked that a member volunteer to the point of contact for the
homeowner's association within the City; Member Legvold volunteers.
Chairperson Vaughn inquired about the opportunity to Ride -a -Long with the fire crews,
Chief Smothers informed the Board they would be provided with the required forms.
C. Under Construction —City Growth:
Commissioner Firstner updated the Board on development and new businesses coming to
the City of Ocoee.
IV. CHIEFS COMMENTS:
Chief Smothers invited the Board to the Award Ceremony in December to present the Fire Fighter
of the Year award, he advised a formal invitation would follow via email. He furthered that new
hires and promotions will be recognized, in addition to several Life Saving and Special Delivery
awards.
V. QUESTIONS/COMMENTS:
Chairperson Vaughn opened the floor for questions and comments, there were none.
VI. ADJOURNMENT:
Member• Richardson made a motion to adjoufn> seconded by Member Legvold. The n�otion carried
unanimously.
