HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-18-2023 Selection and Appointment of Interim District 4 CommissionerAges Hart 1540 Arden Oaks Dr. Ocoee, FL 34761 407-247-4884 Greetings, My name is Ages Hart and I would like to be considered to fill the vacant seat for District 4 until the Special Election is held on June 13, 2023. I am a lifelong resident of Orange County and I have lived in Ocoee for the last 30 years. I was born in Orlando, FL and attended Orange County Public Schools graduating from Oak Ridge High School. After high school, I attended Florida A& M University, College of Pharmacy graduating Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy in 1991. I have worked at Walgreens since 1989 in many roles which has given me some experience that would be helpful as a city leader. I have worked in leadership as a Shift Manager, a Pharmacist Manager dealing with budgets, inventory, customer service, compliance standards, and labor issues. I am also an Ordained Bishop in the Church of God. I have pastored churches in Eustis and Orlando. Currently, I am the Pastor of Christian Education at the Livingston Street Church of God in Orlando. After completing my education and paying off my school loans, I started looking for a home. I found the perfect home in Ocoee and I told my parents what I planned to do. After being reminded of the past of Ocoee, I convinced them that this is a new day and they gave me their blessings. I married my college sweetheart, Lori six months later and we began our life together. We reared our three beautiful daughters here in Ocoee and they have all graduated as honor students from Ocoee High School. I see the great potential that exist in the City of Ocoee. I am willing to put my hands to the plow to help shape its future. Here are some of the community activities that I participated in: • Free community tutoring to prepare our students for the FCAT/FSA and College Prep College Courses • Food drives • Clothing giveaways • “Remembering our Seniors” in nursing homes and assistant living facilities during the holidays throughout the year • Youth Back to School Programs • Annual Teacher -Ins at Ocoee Elementary • Celebrating our teachers and nurses in the City of Ocoee I was an “honorary member” of the HRDB for many years according to Major Bill Maxwell and worked closely with my wife, Lori Hart, and others on the Board. When my work schedule changed, I became an official member of the HRDB. In closing, I believe that I can help bring unity to the leadership of this City which will allow Ocoee to reach its full potential. Thank you for your consideration. Kindest regards, Ages L. Please accept this email and attachment as my cover letter and resume to be considered for the temporary appointment as the Ocoee District 4 Commissioner. Summary - my lifelong experiences and education makes me well-suited for this appointment! I believe that I should be appointed to the Ocoee District 4 Commissioner because: 1. I love the City of Ocoee, want our city to be the very best it can be, and welcome any opportunity to help in any way I can. Being retired. I have the time to devote to an appointment to Ocoee District 4 Commissioner. In addition, I live in Arden Park, the largest neighborhood in Ocoee; and regularly attend City Commission meetings to keep informed.. Moreover. my history of citizen volunteering for the City of Ocoee has given me the opportunity to establish relationships with many city staff. 2. As shown on the attached resume, I have had the privilege to become familiar with many local governments in Pennsylvania and Florida; attend countless commission meetings especially in Broward County, and have spent much of my life serving others. 3. I have no interest in campaigning now or anytime in the future to be the permanent District 4 Commissioner. Furthermore, if I were temporarily appointed as the District 4 Commissioner and it is legally allowed, I would happily accept this temporary appointment without any compensation, just reimbursement for authorized expenses if any. 4. Although much of my life I have been exposed to politics and politicians, I have always been a straight shooter and open and honest. Respectfully submitted, Jim Moyer No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite. - Nelson Mandela CAUTION: This email originated from outside of the organization.
