Subject: Approval for Fire Station 25 Roof Resealing. (Public Works Director Krug)
Background Summary:
In 2020, the City Commission approved Public Works' request for replacing the membrane portion of the roof
at Fire Station 25, which was budgeted within the 2019/2020 capital projects. The station, located at 563 S.
Bluford Rd., is a combination of membrane and metal roofing. The approved budget for 2022/2023 includes a
capital project for the resealing of the metal portion of the roof, which would complete the roof repair for the
entire building. Public Works solicited bids from several area roofing contractors and received two (2)
proposals. Receiving only two proposals is not uncommon with the current nature of the construction industry
where there is a vast amount of work for contractors to choose from. Public Works reviewed the proposals and
found the costs to be in line with current industry standards. Public Works is requesting Commission approval
to award the work to the most responsive of the solicited contractors, West Orange Roofing, at their proposal
cost of $85,000, which is within the budget.
Issue:
Should the Honorable Mayor and City Commissioners approve awarding the roof resealing of Fire Station 25 to
West Orange Roofing?
Recommendations:
Staff recommends the Honorable Mayor and City Commissioners approve awarding the roof resealing of Fire
Station 25 to West Orange Roofing, Inc., for $85,000 and authorizing the City Manager and staff to approve
additional work up to the limit of his purchasing authority for each change order, and up to the allowable
budget for unforeseen conditions.
