Subject: Approval of Federal Fiscal Year 2023 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance
Grant (JAG) Program. (Police Chief Plasencia)
Background Summary:
This year, $10,000 has been made available to the Police Department through the Edward Byrne Memorial
Justice Assistance Grant (JAG). The Byrne Memorial JAG Formula Program Committee wishes to submit a
required 51 % Letter, demonstrating the commitment of local law enforcement agencies, to the Office of
Criminal Justice Grants in Tallahassee. This letter details the various programs participating law enforcement
agencies plan to spend the $318,719 allocated to Orange County agencies and confirms the City's approval of
the allocations. The letter and accompanying grant application, once received, must be signed by the
Mayor. If approved, the City of Ocoee will receive $10,590 for the purchase of fingerprint readers.
Issue:
Should the Honorable Mayor and City Commissioners authorize the Mayor to sign the 51 % Letter and the
grant application, when received, allowing the Police Department to apply for the $10,590 made available for
the Ocoee Police Department through the Edward Byrne Memorial JAG and accept funding to purchase the
fingerprint readers?
Recommendations:
It is recommended the Honorable Mayor and City Commissioners authorize the Mayor to sign the 51 % Letter
and the grant application, when received, allowing the Police Department to apply for the $10,590 made
available for the Ocoee Police Department through the Edward Byrne Memorial JAG and accept funding to
purchase the fingerprint readers.
