Subject: Discussion and Direction for Installation of School Zone Speed Enforcement
Cameras. (Acting Police Chief Ogburn)
Background Summary:
The City of Ocoee has several school zones within its jurisdiction with a high traffic volume. Oftentimes, this
traffic is traveling in excess of the posted speed limit during the hours of school operations. The volume of
vehicles traveling in excess of the posted speed limit outweighs the number of officers required to enforce
these traffic violations. By installing speed zone enforcement cameras in these zones, we will be able to
identify and enforce more violations, it will enhance the safety of the children who are walking to school and
the safety of the school crossing guards. The installation of these cameras will reduce traffic crashes and the
strain on law enforcement personnel. The presence of these cameras will act as a deterrent to speeding. The
speed enforcement cameras will be installed by American Traffic Solutions, Inc., doing business as Verra
Mobility.
Issue:
Should the Honorable Mayor and City Commissioners consider School Zone Speed Enforcement Cameras in
the school zones within the City of Ocoee, and further, request City staff to bring an ordinance for adoption?

Staff recommends that the Honorable Mayor and City Commissioners consider installing School Zone
Enforcement Cameras in the school zones within the City of Ocoee, and further, request City staff to bring an
ordinance for adoption.
