Regular Meeting Held September 28, 2023
Chair Lewis called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM, in the Commission Chambers of Ocoee City
Hall, located at I North Bluford Avenue, Ocoee, FL 34761.
Member Brown led the Pledge of Allegiance and Member Moyer led the Invocation. Recording
Clerk Maldonado called roll and declared a quorum present.

Also present: Sergeant Beek, Recording Clerk, Maldonado and Commissioner Kennedy

APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM THE MAY 25,2023, MEETING:
Member Mellen made a motion to approve the May 25, 2023, minutes; seconded by Member
Brown. The motion carried unanimously

FINANCIAL REPORTS AND BUDGET DISCUSSION
Sergeant Beek provided an update on the $3,000.00 for the fiscal annual budget. Provided an
estimated $1,700.00 used for production of tent, table cloth, giveaways, shirts and gift cards.
Sergeant Beck suggested the board discuss how to use the remain balance which would total
$1,300.00, and noted consideration toward increasing awards for officer of the year and civilian
of the year. Our last increase went to officer of the year from $50.00 to $ 100.00 and civilian of the
year.
Member Mayer made a motion to increase the aivard from $50. 00 to $100. 00-dollar gift cards
per quarter for Qfficer of the Quarter and Civilian of the Quarter, increase from $100.00 to
$200. 00-dollar gift card for Officer of the Year and Civilian of the Year; seconded by Member
Garone. The motion carried unanimously,
Chairperson Lewis opened the discussion and the Board reviewed the nominations.
CACOPD Regular Meeting
September 28, 2023
Member Garone made a motion to nominate entry by John Huss for Civilian oLthe Second
Ocarter 2023, seconded by Member Brounskill. The motion carried unanimortsI)!.
Member Garone made a motion to nominate entry by Sei:geant Juan Munoz for Of of the
Second Quarter 2023, seconded by Member Mellen. The motion carried unanimously.
Sergeant Beck made a request to the board to make a special meeting in the month of December
as he would have the nominee of the third and fourth quarter civilian and officer.
Member Garone made a motion to make a special meeting on Thursday, December 14,2023 at
7: 00 pm, seconded by Member Brown. The motion carried unanimously.
Meeting agenda ivould be selection of the civilian of the 3 8d quarter, 4T" quarter and Civilian Of
the year. Selection of the Officer of the 3*d quarter, Orr' quarter and O(Licer of year. Planning
for 2024
DEPARTMENT UPDATE UPDATES OF EVENTS
Sergeant Beck provided all the details of upcoming events for the Police Department:
Ocoee Pl) brought in six new police officers, three cadets at the police academy, and promoted
two Sergeants. Sergeant Alexander Retired after 30 years of service. New hire of the technologist
specialist and we started our Explorer Program with 5 Cadets.
Member Lewis opened the discussion for a gift card and a letter of appreciation for Sergeant
Alexander' s retirement.
Member Mellen made a motion to give a gift of $100. 00-dollar card to Alexander 3 0-vear
Retirement along ivith a congratulatory letter by the board, seconded by Member Holt. The motion
Failed 3-5 ivith members Garone, Lewis, Braunskill, Brown and Allover 0 Mosing
Member. Garone made a motion to give a $200.00-dollar gift card to Alexander 30-vear
Retirement aloM with a congratulatory letter by the board, seconded by Member Brojvn. The
motion carried unanimously.
The National Night Out October 3 d 2023 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm, Fryday With Cop at Chick -Fill -A,
Spirit Night Tijuana Flats, Stuff the Police Car, Operation Blue Santa, Shop with a Cop, Toy Give
away for the Ocoee kids in need.
COMMENTS / QUESTIONS FROM THE PUBLIC
Community member made a comment in behalf of Public about the poker casino night fundraiser
that was done in the past by the police department. He expressed interest in participating if the
poker night would come back, and asked the board they made the anything for the Retired Officers
and employees.
