Background Summary:
Recently the police department has had three (3) vehicles involved in crashes and in need of replacement. Two (2) of the
vehicles were totaled and one (1) vehicle is scheduled for surplus October I. The insurance company has paid damages in the
total of $23,990.89. Along with the money received from our insurance claim, an additional $30,509.11 is needed to purchase
replacement police patrol vehicles. Three (3) used, fully equipped patrol vehicles are available for purchase at the Longwood
Police Department. The Longwood Police Department currently has three (3) marked patrol vehicles available which meet
our existing need for the replacement of damaged vehicles. The vehicles, which are late model and low mileage, have been
inspected by the City of Ocoee fleet maintenance manager Bill Simmons. Mr. Simmons verified the vehicles are in good
condition and meet our current fleet standards.
Issue:
Should the Honorable Mayor and Board of City Commissioners approve the proposed money transfer from the police
department salaries to vehicle replacement for the replacement purchase of three (3) equipped patrol vehicles from the City
of Longwood?

RE:
Budget Transfer for emergency purchase of three (3) police patrol vehicles.
ISSUE: Should the Honorable Mayor and Board of City Commissioners approve the proposed
money transfer of $30,509.11 from the police department salaries account 001-521-00-1200 to
the vehicle replacement account 001-521-00-6401 for the purchase of three (3) replacement
vehicles from the City of Longwood?
BACKGROUNDIDISCUSSION:
The Police Department has had three (3) marked patrol vehicles seriously damaged in vehicle
crashes. Two (2) of the vehicles were totaled by the insurance company and one (1) of the
vehicles, also heavily damaged, was scheduled for surplus in October due to age and mileage.
The Longwood Police Department currently has three (3) marked patrol vehicles available
which meet our existing need for the replacement of damaged vehicles. The vehicles, which are
late models and low mileage, have been inspected by the City of Ocoee fleet maintenance
manager Bill Simmons. Mr. Simmons verified the vehicles are in good condition and meet our
current fleet standards. The police vehicles are equipped with police patrol lighting and prisoner
cage and turn key ready. The Longwood Police Department will replace the existing graphic
package with Ocoee Police graphics before delivery.
