(Police Chief Ogburn) Background Summary: The Ocoee Police Department has historically donated State Forfeiture Funds to support programs or organizations that partner with the Department in its crime prevention/public safety mission and wishes to continue doing so. The services these organizations provide to the Ocoee Police Department and the community cannot be duplicated within the Department. The Ocoee Police Department recommends donating funds to the following programs: • Crimeline ($2,000.00) provides crime-solving to the law enforcement agencies within Central Florida and provides rewards for members of the public. • Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) ($2,000.00), whose mission is to end drunk driving and support victims of these crimes and prevent underage drinking. • Aspire Behavioral Health Care ($2,500.00) (also known as Central Florida Crisis Intervention Team) trains members of law enforcement on how to deal with people in mental health crises. • Children’s Safety Village ($1,000.00) aims to make Central Florida the safest community for children by providing various safety programs, including car seat check-ups, safety workshops, and sports clinics. These donations comply with Florida State Statute 932.7055, which states that “Such funds may be used only for school resource officers, crime prevention, safe neighborhood, drug abuse education, or drug prevention programs or such other law enforcement purposes as the board of county commissioners or governing body of the municipality deems appropriate.” Issue: Should the Honorable Mayor and City Commissioners authorize the Ocoee Police Department to donate funds from the State Police Forfeiture Fund to the listed organizations that support the law enforcement mission? Recommendations: Staff recommends that the Honorable Mayor and City Commissioners authorize the Ocoee Police Department to donate funds from the State Police Forfeiture Fund to the listed organizations that support the law enforcement mission.
