Bluford Avenue Ocoee, Florida January 23, 2025 MINUTES 6:15 PM • CALL TO ORDER Chair Lewis called the CACOPD meeting to order at 6:23 PM, in the Commission Chambers of Ocoee City Hall, located at I N. Bluford Avenue, Chair Lewis led the Pledge of Allegiance followed by a Moment of Silence. Recording Clerk Maldonado called the roll and declared a quorum present, Present: Chair Lewis, Members Brown, Garay, Meeks, Mellen, and Lomneck (arrived after the call to order) Absent: Member Garone Also Present: Commissioner Kennedy, Sergeant Beck, Officer Gonzalez, and Recording Clerk Maldonado • APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. Minutes of the CACOPD Meetings held on May 23, 2024, and July 25, 2024 Motion: Approve the May 23, 2024, meeting minutes: Motion made by Member Mellen seconded by Member Garay; Motion carried unanimously. Motion: Approve the July 26, 2024, meeting minutes; Motion made by Member Garay, seconded byMemberBrown, Motion carried unanimously; • OLD BUSINESS— None • NEW BUSINESS 1. Board Officer Appointments — Election of chair and Vice -Chair The floor was opened for discussion and to conduct a vote. Motion- Re-elect Chair Lewis for Chair Position; Motion made jjyWenrilber Mellen, seconded by Mern-berCorn neck; Motion carried unanimously. Motion: Elect Member Mellen to the Vice -Chair position; Motion made by Member Bro-wn, seconded by Chair Lewis, Motion carried unanimously. 2. Introduction of Our New CACOPD Liaison Sergeant and Officer Coordinator 1 CACOPD Regular Meeting January 23, 2025 Sergeant Beck introduced to the CACOPD the new Community Affairs liaisons, Sergeant Coleman and Officer Gonzalez, 3. Financial Reports and Budget Discussion Sergeant Beck provided an update on the $3,000.00 allocated for the FY 24-25 budget. The board discussed maintaining the increased award amounts of $100,00 for both the Officer of the Quarter and the Civilian of the Quarter awards, and $200.00 for both the Officer of the Year and the Civilian of the Year awards, which total $1,200.00 in gift cards, leaving a remaining balance of $1,800.00, carried unanimously. The board discussed the Police Explorers program, which currently has a total of ten (10) hew cadet members, with new coordinator Officer Gonzalez. Members Mellen and Meeks explained their opposition to donating to the COPS Program and requested there be a separate vote for it. Discussion ensued. Motion: Donate $500.00 to the Police Explorers program; Motion made -- by Member Mellen, seconded by Member Meeks. Motion carried unanimously.
