Regular Meeting Held on September 16, 2024 1
CALL TO ORDER:
Chair Rainer called the meeting to order at 6:10 PM, in the Commission Chambers in City Hall, located at I N.
Bluford Avenue in Ocoee, FL. Recording Clerk Shaw called roll and determined a quorum present.
Present: Chair Rainer, and Members Applegate, Salhab, and Graham
Absent: Vice -Chair Lornneck, and Members Hassan and Moyer
Also present: Commissioner Wilsen, Parks Operations Manager Abdo, and Recording Clerk Shaw

APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM JULY 15,2024:
Member Applegate made a notion to approve the July 15, 2024, minutes; seconded bEMember Graham. !Motion
carried unanhnously.
UPDATE OF EVENTS
Parks Operations Manager Abdo briefly updated the Board on the following events: Family Rec Day and
Movie at the Pool. He addressed the Board's questions related to community participation and event success.
Allocate Funds for Future Events
Parks Operations Manager Abdo announced the FY 2025 budget has yet to be approved and explained that he
is unsure of the funds allocated for the Advisory Board. Member Applegate inquired about the current FY
funds. Recording Clerk Shaw provided a brief account of fund expenditures.
HighLIGHTing Ocoee
The board discussed dates and times for the drive -along to judge the holiday lights.
Member Applegate made a notion to hold HighLight Ocoee on December 12 and 16, 2024 at 6:00 pm; seconded
by Member Graham. Motion carried unaniniouslj.
Parks Operations Manager Abdo announced the following upcoming events: Community Market on October
5"' at Bill Breeze Park, Halloween Howl on October 25t", Family Movie Night and Community Market on
November 15th at Bill Breeze Park, Community Market on December 5Ih , Jolly Jamboree on December 10'. He
addressed the Board's questions related to upcoming events and board participation.
Gordon Plague Dedication
Parks Operations Manager Abdo announced the plaque to honor Gordon Applegate will go before City
Commission on November 5 th at 6:15 pm. Commissioner Wilsen mentioned that Staff will bring the plaque to
be dedicated for the Skate Park to the Commission Meeting.
BOARD COMMENTS
Member Salhab mentioned he is the Youth Director of a nonprofit organization called Eight Waves. He
highlighted an auction event that took place at the Lakeshore Center with over 300 people in attendance. The
organization raised over $80,000 for a new museum being built in the City of Winter Garden. The museum will
be the first literacy museum in the nation, taking up three to five acres.
