Subject: Approval to Submit Application for Orange County EMS Grant – Automated External
Defibrillators (AEDs). (Deputy Fire Chief Van Camp)
Background Summary:
The Orange County Emergency Medical Services (OC EMS) Advisory Council Awards Grant Program
provides funding opportunities for local agencies to enhance emergency medical response capabilities through
the acquisition of equipment and related resources. The Ocoee Fire Department would like approval to apply
for funding to replace aging Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) currently in service.
The department’s existing AED inventory includes units that are significantly outdated and approaching or
exceeding their recommended service life. These devices are critical life-saving tools utilized during cardiac
emergencies and must remain reliable, technologically current, and compliant with evolving EMS standards.
The proposed project includes the replacement of ten (10) AEDs that are currently deployed in multiple city
buildings with modern, fully automatic devices equipped with cellular connectivity, data capabilities, and
enhanced patient care features. According to the vendor quote, the total project cost for equipment,
maintenance, and data services is $32,607.00.
Issue:
Should the Honorable Mayor and City Commission approve the submission of an application to the OC EMS
Advisory Council Awards Grant Program for the replacement of ten (10) Automated External Defibrillators?
Recommendations:
Staff recommends that the Honorable Mayor and City Commission approve the submission of an application
to the OC EMS Advisory Council Awards Grant Program for the replacement of ten (10) Automated External
Defibrillators.
Approval of this item will authorize the Ocoee Fire Department to seek grant funding to enhance emergency
medical response capabilities and improve patient care outcomes through the acquisition of updated AED
technology.
