Subject: Notification of Vacancies on the Code Enforcement Board. (Deputy City Clerk Parks)
Background Summary:
The Code Enforcement Board was created by Ordinance No. 741 on June 16, 1981. The purpose of this
Board is to review residential property infractions of the City Technical Codes, negotiate compliance and
impose fines for failure to comply. The City utilizes a magistrate apart from the Code Board for code
enforcement issues involving commercial properties. The Code Enforcement Board shall consist of seven (7)
regular members and two (2) alternate members, all with three-year terms. Currently, the Board has five (5)
regular members and no alternate members. There is one (1) regular member seat with a term set to expire
June 2026, one (1) vacant regular member seat with a term set to expire June 2026, one (1) vacant regular
member seat with a term set to expire June 2027, and two (2) vacant alternate member seats.
At the Regular City Commission Meeting held on April 21, 2026, after brief discussion, the City Commission
reached a consensus to allow each Commissioner to submit names for consideration. Currently, there are no
other applications on file for this Board. Staff will contact the one (1) regular member whose term expires in
June 2026 to determine their interest in reappointment and request that they submit an updated application.
Information regarding board attendance and the potential reappointment of the current member will be
presented at the May 19, 2026, City Commission Meeting for discussion and consideration.
Issue:
Provide notification to the Honorable Mayor and City Commission of the upcoming expiration of one (1) regular
member seat, and vacancies of two (2) regular member seats, and two (2) alternate seats on the Code
Enforcement Board. Discussion of these seats will ensue at the May 19, 2026, Regular City Commission
Meeting.
Recommendations:
Staff recommends the Honorable Mayor and City Commission bring names of potential members to the May
19, 2026, Regular City Commission Meeting.
