Subject: Approval for Appointment of a Regular Member and an Alternate Member to the Code
Enforcement Board. (Deputy City Clerk Parks)
Background Summary:
The Code Enforcement Board was created by Ordinance No. 741 on June 16, 1981. The purpose of this
Board is to review residential property infractions of the City Technical Codes, negotiate compliance and
impose fines for failure to comply. The City utilizes a magistrate apart from the Code Board for code
enforcement issues involving commercial properties. The Code Enforcement Board shall consist of seven (7)
regular members and two (2) alternate members, all with three-year terms. Currently, the Board has six (6)
regular members and no alternate members.
Applications have been received from Michael Montgomery (District 2) and Bradley Jackson (District 1), both
of whom have expressed an interest in serving on the Code Enforcement Board. Currently, there is one (1)
vacant regular member seat with a term set to expire in June 2027, as well as two (2) vacant alternate
member seats. Staff recommends that the City Commission appoint one applicant to the vacant regular
member seat, with a term expiring in June 2027, and appoint the other applicant to one of the vacant alternate
member seats.
There are no additional applications for this board on file.
Issue:
Should the Honorable Mayor and City Commission consider appointing Michael Montgomery and Bradley
Jackson to the Code Enforcement Board, with one applicant being appointed to the vacant regular member
seat, for a term set to expire in June 2027, and the other applicant being appointed to one of the vacant
alternate member seats?
Recommendations:
Staff recommends that the Honorable Mayor and City Commission consider appointing Michael Montgomery
and Bradley Jackson to the Code Enforcement Board, with one applicant being appointed to the vacant
regular member seat, for a term set to expire in June 2027, and the other applicant being appointed to one of
the vacant alternate member seats.
