Subject: Approval to Trade in Older Rifles for Credit Towards the Purchase of New
Rifles. (Police Chief Ogburn)
Background Summary:
The Ocoee Police Department would like approval to trade in seven older-model Ruger rifles for seven new
FN short-barreled rifles. The rifles to be traded in are 10 years old, have maintenance issues, and must be
serviced more frequently than the new rifles, due to their age. The trading of these rifles will help ensure that
the department’s equipment remains modern and operationally consistent. Earlier this fiscal year, we
purchased nine FN short-barreled rifles with the goal of eventually replacing all the older-model Rugers within
the agency to ensure consistency in the weapons used. SSD International has offered the Ocoee Police
Department a $2,100.00 trade-in credit for the seven older rifles. In exchange, the Ocoee Police Department
would use this credit toward the purchase of seven new FN short-barreled rifles, which would cost the agency
$7,315.00.
Issue:
Should the Honorable Mayor and City Commission approve the trade-in of seven older-model Ruger rifles for
seven newer-model FN short-barreled rifles?
Recommendations:
Staff recommends that the Honorable Mayor and City Commission approve the trade-in of seven older-model
Ruger rifles for seven newer-model FN short-barreled rifles.
