Background Summary:
The Police Department's traffic enforcement motorcycles occasionally operate in inclement weather with speed
detection radars. Standard radars are not made for use in such weather. Such use causes damage to the radars,
voids warrantees, and requires more service. Waterproof radars are specifically manufactured for use in
inclement weather. The Police Department wishes to purchase two (2) waterproof radars at a total cost of not
more than $6,500.00 total from its Forfeiture account.
Issue:
Should the Honorable Mayor and Board of City Commissioners authorize the use of not more than $6,500.00 in
"orfeiture monies to make a purchase of two (2) waterproof radars?
Recommendations
It is recommended that the Honorable Mayor and Board of City Commissioners authorize the use of not more
than $6,500.00 in Forfeiture monies to make a purchase of two (2) waterproof radars.

in that account.

Purchase of Waterproof Radars for Police Motorcycles
ISSUE
Should the Honorable Mayor and Board of City Commissioners authorize the use of not more than $6,500.00 in
Forfeiture monies to make a purchase oftwo (2) waterproofradars?
BACKGROUNDIDISCUSSION
The Police Department's traffic enforcement motorcycles occasionally operate in inclement weather with speed
detection radars. Standard radars are not made for use in such weather. Such use causes damage to the radars,
voids warrantees, and requires more service. Waterproof radars are specifically manufactured for use in
inclement weather.
The Police Department wishes to purchase two (2) waterproof radars at a total cost of not more than $6,500.00
from its Forfeiture account. There is approximately $200,000.00 in that account. The radars will be selected and
purchased in accordance with City purchasing policies and procedures. The purchase of these radars will also
allow the standard radars currently being used on the motorcycles to be moved to regular patrol units.
