MINUTES OF CANVASSING BOARD MEETING HELD NOVEMBER 21, 1984: RUN-OFF PRESENT: Mayor Ison, Commissioners Cook and Cox, City Clerk Catron, City Mgr. Griffin ABSENT: Commissioners Hager and Rodgers CALL TO ORDER Mayor Ison called the meeting to order at 12:07 P.M. in the Commission Chambers. ABSENTEE VOTES OPENED AND RECORDED Mayor Ison called for a recap of the votes cast in the run-off election November 20 and City Clerk Catron reported the machine vote to be as follows: John Bateman William E. Stinnett 360 235 595 Total Mrs. Catron further advised that the county had provided the list of absentee ballots requested for the general election and that she had mailed or delivered a total of 137 absentee ballots. Of those 90 had not been returned. Of those that had been returned 5 were canceled because the citizens turned them in at the polls when they voted in person, 1 was not signed and 1 was received too late (November 21 mail). 137 absentee ballots delivered - 90 not returned 5 canceled 1 not signed 1 returned too late ~apparently valid votes Mayor Ison distributed the absentee ballots to be opened by the commissioners, cautioning them that, in order to be considered valid, an absentee ballot must be sealed inside a plain envelope inside the printed envelope. As the ballots were being opened 9 were found to be not properly sealed, leaving a total of 31 absentee ballots to be considered in the run-off election. The total votes are as follows: Machine Vote Absentee Vote Total John Bateman William E. Stinnett 360 235 13 18 373 253 TOTALS 595 31 626 Mayor Ison declared Comm. Bateman officially in office and administered the oath at 12:20 P.M. e e . ',' CANVASSING BOARD MINUTES NOVEMBER 21, 1984 PAGE 2 COMMISSIONER BATEMAN EXPRESSES GRATITUDE TO CITIZENS Commissioner Bateman said that he has a lot of things to be grateful for and that the citizens of Ocoee have given him an unexpected Thanksgiving present for which he is most appreciative. Comm. Bateman stated that he will carry out the dictates of the oath of office to the best of his ability and that this is the longest speech he will ever make. ADJOURNMENT Upon a motion by Carom.
