DISCUSSION ARBOR TREE ORDINANCE - COMM. RODGERS
Comm. Rodgers recommended the City of Ocoee adopt an
Ordinance that will give the City staff authorization to
stop the massive destruction of trees. The City needs to
preserve the natural environment as much as possible. Comm.
Rodgers also suggested we adopt a 'Landscape Ordinance'
simultaneously with the 'Tree Ordinance', to set guidelines
and stipulations for builders and developers. Mr. Wagner,
City Planner, stated that he had researched several
Ordinances from Orlando and Orange County; all of the
Ordinances were basically the same, some more detailed than
others, some would be harder to enforce, they differ in the
landscaping portion. Comm. Rodgers wanted to adopt an
Ordinance which would give the Building Dept. the
authorization to stop the destruction of trees immediately.
Comm. Hager suggested the builder/developer tag the trees;
this is provided in some of the Ordinances submitted.
Mr. Wagner, City Planner, stated the Ordinance also provides
for barriers to be placed around the trees to be saved, to
protect them against the heavy equipment. Comm. Bateman
supported both Comm. Rodgers and Comm. Hager. We must have
the ability to enforce the preservation of the trees.
Staff was directed to
out and come back
