MINUTES OF OCOEE CITY COMMISSION SPECIAL SESSION HELD
JANUARY 31, 1989
The special session was called to order by Mayor Ison at 8:09 p.m.
in the conference room.
PRESENT: Mayor Ison, Commissioners Combs, Dabbs, Hager and
Johnson, City Manager Bateman and City Clerk Grafton
ABSENT: None
Commissioner Johnson reported that he had visited Converse, Texas
over the weekend and he had also made snapshots of the city. As
the Commissioners looked the snapshots over, Commissioner Johnson
continued his report, saying that he had been expecting to see a
city like Ocoee when he arrived there and instead had found a
bedroom community experiencing growth in reverse. His interviews
with a police officer and a mailman and several citizens revealed
that there was not much going on there politically and that the
city's survival seemed to depend largely on a nearby military
base.
Mayor Ison stated that he had learned on Friday that Mr. Myers
wanted $60,000 annual salary to come here and he decided that
reinterviewing him would not be productive as the commissioners
had agreed to negotiate around $50,000 range.
The consensus was that, as both Mr. Myers' and Mr. Klaiber's
resumes had indicated their experience was with a growing dynamic
city and the appearance of their community did not support that
position, it would not be necessary to reinterview Mr. Klaiber
either. Staff was instructed to cancel any appointments already
made for those interviews.
A new list of candidates to be scheduled for Saturday, February 4,
1989 beginning at 5:00 p.m. was made which included 2 first
interviews and 1 reinterview:
5:00 p.m.
5:30 p.m.
6:00 p.m.
Ralph K. Hester - Lynn Haven, FL
Kenneth Resor - Palm Bay, FL
Ellis Shapiro - Coral Gables, FL
The matter will be discussed further at the February 7 regular
commission meeting.
ADJOURNMENT
The meeting informally adjourned at 9:00 p.m.
