MINUTES OF' A SPECIAL MEETING OF TEE CI'lry COUNCIL, HEW JUNE 24th,
192~.
./
Meeting called to order by
J. M. Argo and R. D. Slone
Faln. '
Mayor and Clerk present.
Pres. of Council, J. J. Robertson, with
present. Absent: L. C. Bobo and C. F.
Also Quite a number of citizens.
Purpose of meeting to discuss the paving assessments and taxes which
are delinquent. Those present representing Bond Interests,' were:
Messrs. H. S. Wheeler of Wright-Warlow & Co., xxxx Lindsey, Orlan-
do Manager for Brown-Crurnmer Co., and Wolking, Atty. .
Mr. Wheeler spoke first. of the importance of collecting all b'ack
taxes, etc., and remitting to the Hanover Nat. Bank for interest and
principal on bonds. This was good corr.mon sense in theory, but under
present conditions in this territory, the collectioh of any large per-
centage of delinquent taxes, etc., seems an impossibility. However,
every man present expressed himself as willing to do all in his power
to keep Ocoee from de.faulting. !vir. Lindsey spoke along same line.
Nr. Wolking spoke of the large amount of delinquent taxesand paving
assessemnts, and presented figures taken .from City Records to verify
his statement. Mr. Wolking said the Tax Books were very nicely and
~ neatly made up and kept, but criticised the form in which the Paving
.., Assessments were kept. Mr. Lindsey said his Company ovmed about
$100,000. of Ocoee Bonds.
Mr. Wolking suggested that if Ocoee heeded a man to do the collecting
that he would be glad to take the job ~~~x$I~~xxx, making a survey
of conditions and the conditions of the people who owe the City, for
which he would expect ~~150., and then he would collect the taxes on
a percentage basis. Council took no action.
Different citizens spoke along the line of collecting these bills
in order to meet our obligations. ,and it was decided to have a mass
meeting at the School House Thursday at 8 P. M., June 27th, at which
time Hon. R. F. Maguire will be invited to address the citizens on
the above matters. Clerk instructed to send out cards to the tax
payers to this effect.
L
~r. Slone suggested that Lake Shore Drive Assessments be reduced' -
from mnocxtk two-thirds to one third of the cost of said road, and
he considered that this should be done and the :!~9,OOO. added to the
tax payers ~~~ of Ocoee 9roper. Dr. ,Jensen said he would refuse
to~l~ow them to,d~duct anything f~Qm his assessffi@Rt if that would
take awy his rights to the Lake Shore. After some discussion, this

of $13,363.00 and a collection of *4,085.36, leaving a balance of ~
$9!262.7l delinque~t. This shows about a 30% collection.
Clerk was instructed to remit to Hanover Nat. Bank of New York the sum
of $720. plus commission and fee, etc. to cover semi-annual interest
on the" 5~26,000. issue of street bonds. This issue has been reduced
