Minutes of a regular meeting of the City Counoil held June 3rd 1940
Meeting called to order by Chairman at 7:30 P. M.
All members present, Mayor and vl erk present.
The meetings of May 6th and May 20th were not properly closed, which
were oarried over to this regular meeting.

~he matter of disposing the motion made by Mr. ~ryan in meet~hg of
whioh was to take up the matter of Counci1 employing ~ory Akerman
Attorney to assist us in levying of taxes for 1940 ~~R. Mr~' ~rgo
\ Bryan voted AYE, Mr. Graves, Mr. Kerr and Mr. Pounds 'voted No.

Mr. Kerr moved second Mr. Graves to acoept -Mr. Argo's resignation -as
Vioe-Ohairman of Uouncil, voted and carried. ; ;
Mr. Argo moved second Mr. Kerr to ammend motion in addition to cutting
1939 assessment 10% for the 1940 assessment roll to even up assessment to
the even dollar, so as not to be a fraction of a dollar, voted and carried.
Mr. Kerr moved and seoond Mr. Graves to pay the B. M. Reeves note with
water rents he and M. C. Reeves now owes. voted and carried.
Mr. Argo moved and second Mr. ~raves that Mr. Brock Allen1s resignation
as 1mrsha1 be aooepted as of May 15th. voted and carried~
Mr. C. J. Farmer was appointed hy Mayor Johnston to act as special marshal
subjeot to the approval of the vouncil.
Mayor Johnston asked the ~ounoil ff they saw fit to confirm his appointment
of Mr. ]nrmer. Mr. Argo moved second Mr. Bryan that Mr. Farmer be appointed
as marshal of Ocoee. Mr. Argo and Mr. Bryan voted AYE. All opposed usesd
same sign, Mr. Graves, Mr. Kerr and Mr. Pounds voted AYE.

Meeks and Mr. U. W. Welborne. Mr. Bryan-moved second Mr. Kerr to appoint
C. G. Sanders as marshalt o~ Oooee With salary of $50.00 per month payable
on the 1st and 15th OI eaoh month. voted and oarried unanimously.
Mr. Bryan moved and second Mr. Argo to have Mr. Beltz repair roof and fix
windows to the Post Offioe, voted and carried.
Mr. ~ryan moved and second Mr.~rgo that we employ a well established firm
of Lawyers for' the purpose of drafting a resolution extending the time of
levying 1940 taxes Irom May 15th to July 15th so they would have time to
go before both vourts and get the vourt orders modified so we can set our
mills an 1940 taxes at approximately 27 mills and not 500 mills, and that
the body of vouncilmen name the firm of Lawyers. M.r. Bryan and Mr. Argo
voted AYE, Mr. Kerr, Mr. ~raves and ~r. Pounds voted NO.
liounoi1 asked that notices be posted for complaint of tax assessments, and
notify those partiES that assessment was raised in writing, and that meeting
to hear oomplaints would be at next regular meeting, June 17th 1940
Bryan moved seoond Graves that E. J. Kerr be appointed Vice-vhariman of the
vounoil. voted and carried.
