The meeting was called to order by Chairman Bryan at 7:30 P.M. and the minutes of the last regular meeting of October 21, 1948 were read and approved. Councilman Brown made a motion to approve, ,the payment of all of the following bills: (a) C. G. Sanders, marshal salary to 11-1-48 w. H. Wurst, Clerk salary to 11-1-48 I. H. Davis, 50 hrs labor on streets C. G, Sanders, Marshal fee on 4 cases Bud Owens, Mayor fees on 6 cases W. H. Wurst, Clerks fee on 7 cases I. H. Davis, 30 hrs labor on streets C~sh paid out - $6. garbage hauling;$4.50 postage. Rodgers and Kirkland, retainer for October Florida Power Corp. power & lights to 10-8-48 Johnnies Service Station, gas and oil street dept. R. .J. Mobley, for shovel, handle & br~om Carl J, Jackson, Tax .Collector J. J. Wiggins, fire house rent to 11-1-48 Mrs. Mary Belle Kerr~ Election inspector ~~s. O. L. Sanders, ~lection Inspector Mrs. Bessie T. Scott, Election clerk Mrs. Nora P. Salisbury, Election inspector G. W. Stephens, Election deputy M. C. Aft~r much discussion over the recent election for three City Councilmen ,,[hich was held November 2nd, where three non-qualified persons cast their ballot. City Attorney Rodgers was present to state the law on several questions as to the voting procedure and of the counting the ballots, after this seemed satisfied to the Council, Councilman Wiggins made a motion to open Election Ballot box and proceed with the examining and recounting. This motion was seconded by Cou~cilman Minor, voted upon and carried. After all the ballots were recounted by members of the Council and City Clerk as the canvasing board. Councilman Minor made a motion to accept the count and declare the three highets men elected to the City Council for the next. two years. this motion was seconded by Councilman Asher, voted and carried. The r'ecound resulted in the final numbers as follows: C. L. Richbourg 121 votes; 1,1. C. Bryan 102 votes;arld E. A. Murray 98 votes, they being the three highes and duly election to the Council, 1-1ayor fh'lens swore them in by reading the Oath of Office. Other Candidates received as follows: M. B. Slone 91 votes; John T. Minor 77 votes; E. B. Bro~ 70 votes; J. I. Jernigan 69 votes, and J. H. Fox 49 votes. Councilman Murray made a motion that M. C. Bryan be appo~nted as Chairman This motion Vias seconded by Counc~lman RichbdlUrg~, Councilmen Asher, J>.1urray, Richbourg and Wiggins voted AYE, Councilman Bryan voted NO. Carried. Councilman Murray made a motion to pospone appoin~ing the Clerk and Marshal until next meeting, this motion was seconded by Councilman Richbourg, voted and carried. ~ There being no further business, Councilman Wiggins made a motion that the meeing be adjourned.
