HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-01-1965 MINUTES OF THE REGULAR ~mETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OCOEE, FLORIDA HELD JUNE 1, 1965 Present: Councilwoman Hager, Councilmen Pounds, Patterson, Mayor: Howell Miller & Bracewell Absent: None I The meeting was called to order by Councilwoman Hager at $:10 P.M. The minutes of the last regular meeting held May 18, 1965 and the special meeting held May 25, 1965 were read and approved. Councilman Miller made a motion that Council approve the following bills. Sawyer was to leave some brochures with the Clerk for the Council to study further. I A letter was received from Martin Andersen of the the Orlando Sentinel stating his intention of making application for a franchise authorizing the construction,operation and main- ,tenance of a Community Antenna Television System. (CATV). A letter of thanks was received from Carl R. Peters, Winter Garden Fire Chief thanking the Ocoee Volunteer Fire Department for their assisstance in a recent fire in Winter Garden. Mayor Howell reported that he had been contacted by a Girl Scout representative saying that the girl scouts had received a letter stating that they could not return to their camp ground in Ocala National Forest. She asked that someone in Ocoee should attend a meeting in Orlando Friday, June 4, 1965, concerning this matter. Councilman Bracewell reported that Mrs. Paul Altman and Mrs. Denver Thigpen were going to attend. Councilman Bracewell made a motion to change the name of Tululu Street and Bake Shore Drive to Silver Star Road through Ocoee. Councilman Miller seconded the motion. Councilmen Patterson, Pounds, Miller and Bracewell voted YES. No NO'S. Carried un- animously. The Post Office was to be notified of this change. I " The City Council discussed having the front of the City Hall remodeled with ornamental blocks. Councilman Pounds was to check on the blocks and materials to have this done. Councilwoman Hager reported to the Council that she had attended a meeting of the Orange County Commissioners concerning new roads in Orange.Connty. She stated that Ocoee was not going to get any benefit from this money. The suggested that the gate to the Little League buildings be locked and a kep kept in each police car. The policemen are to 9pen the gate befl6re each game and close it afterwards. The Clerk was instructed to write ~trs. Versie Thomas asking for payment of 'the Cemetery lot she ;purchased from the City. Councilman Bracewell made a motion to refund the amount of taxes overpaid to John Kenko and Daniel Haines. Councilman Pounds sec- onded the motion. Councilmen Patterson, Pounds, Miller and Bracewell voted YES. No NO'S. Carried unanimously. Councilman Patterson made a motion to allow the Ocoee Volunteer Firemen 20,000 gallons of free water each month. Councilman Miller seconded the motion. Councilmen Patterson, Pounds, Miller and Bracewell voted YES. No NO'S. Carrmed unanimously. Councilman Pounds made a motion that the Council adopt Ordinance #459 being an ordinance declaring the intentio~ of the City of Ocoee, Florida to annex a certain tract of unincorporated land lying contiguous to the municipal boundaries of the City of Ocoee and situated in Orange County, Florida, to-wit: The SEk of the swk of the swk of Section 20, Township 22 South, Range 2$ EAST. Councilman Miller seconded the motion. Councilmen Pounds, Patterson, Miller and Bracewell voted YES. No NO'S. Carried unanimously. I There being no further business Councilman Patterson made a motion to adjourn this meeting. Councilman Bracewell seconded the motion. Thereupon Council adjourned at 10:10 P.M.
