MINUTES OF THE REGULAR ~~ETING OF THE CITY
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OCOEE, FLORIDA HELD
OCTOBER 5, 1965
Present: Councilwoman Hager, Councilmen Patterson, Pounds
Mayor: Howell Miller & Bracewell
Absent: None
The meeting was called to order by Councilwoman Hager at 8: 05 P .II:.
The minutes of the last regular meeting held September 21, 1965
were read and approved.
Councilman Miller made a motion that Council approve the following
bills. Councilman Pounds seconded the motion. Voted and
carried.

~I. J. Ben Griffin appeared before the Council to ask them to con-,
sider changing the name of the main street through 6coee to one name
rather than having the four names of Bluford Avenue, McKey Street,
Taylor Street and Franklin Street. He also asked them to think about
a name for the road being built from the !\.popka Road to Kissimmee Ave.,
and that the sp~ed limit be set at 30 MPH on Bluford Avenue from
McKey Street to the Silver Star Road. Mayor Howell and Leroy Turner
were to work out a solution for this.
Councilman ~~iller reported to the Council that the road and sidewalk
had been completed in Spring Lake Hills.
Mayor Howell reported that the Bus Stop needed to be repainted on the
inside. Councilman Pouds was to have this done.

Councilwoman Hager reported to the Council that the Little League
was out of debt and had $900.00 in their treasuries.
Councilman Bracewell reported that several garbage trucks had been
used by our garbage cre"1'. He obtained another bid from Truxmore
Pakker;
1800 International truck with 23yd packer: $11,010.00
1600 International truck with 18 yd packer: 8,750.00
23 yd. packer only 5,555.00
18 yd packer only 4.930.00
fhe chairrr.an of the Council asked Councilman Bracewell to make a
list of all bids he had received for the Council to study before
the next meeting.
Councilmaruqiller made a motion to authorize Florida Power Corp.
to make a surv~y of Lyman Street to determine the number of
street lights needed.
~~. Marshall Tubbs, Ocoee High School Principal, had contacted Council-
man Miller about the City writing the Council School supertendent
asking therr. to buy the property across Bluford Avenue in front of the
school house, for a parking lot and a future site for a new ele-
mentary school. The clerk was instructed to write this letter ~dth
the ~upervision of ~~. Tubbs.
Councilwoman Hager informed" the Council that they had been asked to
judge several skits, called the Redbird Rally, to be presented by the
school organizations on October 21, 1965. The Council all agreed
to participate.

~~yor Howell reported that they Council had been invited to ride in
the Homecorr.ing Parade.
Councilman Bracewell made a motion to give the Athletic Association
permission to have the Homecoming Parade on October 22, 1965. Council-
man Pounds seconded the motion. Councilmen Patterson, Pounds, ~Iiller
and Bracewell voted YES. No NO'S. Carried unanimously.
A special meeting was called by the ~fuyor for October 12, 1965 to go
over the reg~stration books and work on the budget.
A letter was receibed from the Shell Oil Compfmy, saying that the station on
Highway 50 ~las not completed until July~ of 1965 and should not be
taxed this year. The clerk was instructed to ~Tite a letter telling
them this property would be assessed as R vacant lot this year.
There being no further business Councilman Bracewell made a motion to
adjourn this meeting. Councilman Patterson seconded the motion. I
Thereupon Council adjourned at 9:40 P.M.
