HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-01-1966 I .~ 7 I I MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OCOEE, FLORIDA HELD FEBRUARY 1, 1966 Present: Councilwoman Hager, Councilmen: Pounds, Patterson, Mayor Howell Miller & Bracewell Absent: None The meeting was called to order by Councilwoman Hager at 8:10 P.M. The minutes of the last regular meeting held January 18, 1966 were read and approved. Councilman Miller made a motion that Council approve the bills that are in order. The Council granted them permission if it was to be from an obseratory standpoint only. The Council agreed that the new garbage truck should have fire, theft and collision insurance on it. Ronald A Crews was present at the meeting to ask the Council for a donation as he had been chosen as a member of the United States Band Association, affitl he had to pay his own way. Councilman Miller made a motion to donate $160.00 to him. Councilman Pounds seconded the motion. Councilmen Patterson, Pounds, Miller and, Bracewell voted YES. No NO'S. Carried unanimously. The Mayor was to dictate letters to the Clerk to be sent to the County, Commissioners, Senator Beth Johnson, George ,Daniels, and Governor Burns conserning getting some traffic' lights in Ocoee. Councilman Patterson was to contact a representative from the American Oil Company to be present at the next Council meeting to discuss installing a tank and sell gas to the City of Ocoee. The Mayor read a letter of permission from the Florida Telephone Corporation asking permission to install new ca~les in Lakewood Hills. The mayor was give authority to sign this permission at his decretion. I The Mayor present the Police Summary for the M nth of January prepared by Leroy Turner. A copy attaced to tHese minutes. Councilwoman Hager suggested that City Attor~ey write the Ford Company asking why our Police Car had not been delivered. The Mayor was to call first and contact Mr. Cross of his findings. Councilman Patterson contacted Loyd Roberson conserning buying some property to drill another well on. He was to contact the City at a later date and let them know what his decision was. City Attorney, Spencer C. Cross discussed with the Council the need for a sewer system, gas system and a zoning ordinance. He was to check and' see how much money could be obtained from the Federal Government to install a sewer sy~tem. Councilman Miller reported that Mrs. Mattie Farmer had never paid for the tile installed in her driveway. City Attorney, Spencer C. Cross was to write her a letter about this bill. Also he was to write Tommy Darden concerning the paving assessment on his property on Taylor St. Mrs. Mattie Farmer had complained to the City about the trash from the Ocoee T. V. Center blowing into her yard. Councilman Bracewell was to contact Mr. Clifton Bowers conserning this matter. Councilman Bracewell reported to the City Council that the Ocoee T. ~ Center was using water off the Meter at Kelley's Cabinet Shop. The Clerk was instructed to add this on the Bill to Kelley's cabinet shop. ~ I The Clerk was instructed to write Mr. James Breadwell that if his bill was not paid in full for both water and garbage service by the 15th of February 1966 his serviees would be discontinued and a charge of $100.00 would have to bepaid before his services would be continued. Councilman Patterson reported that he had revised the rates for water on the Lake Drive Trailer Park to: a minimum of $2.50 for each apart- ment and $1.00 for each trailer plus 10% utility tax. Councilman Bnacewell reported that the Garbage truck would be delivered on February 2, 1966. Councilman Pounds made a motion that the brick should be sold for 6~ for the whole brick and 3~ for the broken brick. Councilman Miller seconded the motion. Councilmen Patterson Pounds, Miller and Bracer well voted YES. No NO'S. Carried unanimously. Councilman Braceweil asked that the City give him the brick in front of this house and that he in turn would build and pay for a sidewalk in front of his house. No action was taken. I RAYMOND G. Councilman Pounds seconded the motion. Councilmen Patterson, Pounds, Miller and Brac@we11 voted YES. No NO'S. Carried unanimously. The Council discussed setting aside $2,000.00 each year for 5 years to build sidewalks. No action was taken. Councilman POUnB made a motion to have the books audited by Wells, Laney, Ehrlich and Baer. Councilman Miller seconded the motion. Councilmen Patterson, Pounds, Miller and Bracewell voted TES. No NO'S. Carried unanimously. The Council discussed outstanding fines of people who had been released without paying their fines. The City Attorpey instructed that the Mayor would be in contempt of Court if he released some- one without their fines being paid. The Council agreed that no-one be released without their fines being paid. There being no further business Councilman Pounds made a motion to adjourn this meeting.
