HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-03-1967 MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OCOEE, FLORIDA HELD JANUARY 3, 1967 Present: Councilmen: Hamby, Reese, Miller, & Bracewell Councilwoman Hager & Mayor Howell Absent: None The meeting was called to order by Councilman Bracewell at 7:05 P.M. The minutes of the last regular meeting held December 20, 1966 were read and approved. Councilman Miller made a motion that Council approve all bills in order. Councilman Reese seconded the motion. Bracewell - water dept $25.00,dep.$7.50 32.50 Edward Hornsby - police dept. 4.78 Ed Fields asked roalpermit to erect a sign at the corner of Silver Star Road and Apopka Road "Welcome to Ocoee Shopping Center". The zoning and planning board were to contact him of their decision the next day. Mrs. Kunau, 1606 Mona Avenue, complained of dogs at 1602 Mona Avenue being a nuisance to the neighborhood. The police department were to contact the County dog catcher about these dogs. I Councilman Hamby made a motion that after having our attor- ney's opinion of the Americah Legion proposal to the City, to issue the American Legion a Club License as per their proposal to the City of Ocoee and that we expect their cooperation in 1967. Councilman Reese seconded the motion. Councilmen Hamby, Reese, and Miller voted YES. Council- woman Hager voted NO. Motion was carried. Hager voted NO because our attorney stated their proposal does not constiture a private club. Scotty Vandergrift was present to learn the decision of the Council on buying the lights presently on the Little League Field so that they might erect more sufficient lights. Councilman Hamby made a motion to ask Councilwoman Hager con- tact the Bank of West Orange to investigate borrowing the money to buy the lights, and find out the rate of interest we would be charged. Councilwoman Hager seconded the motion. Councilmen Hamby, Reese, Miller and Hager voted YES/ No NO'S. Carried unanimously. Councilman Hamby reported he had one bid for doors for the Fire Department from Frank Cannon for $700.00. Councilman Miller made a motion to hire T. H. VanDevanter as our City Judge at the present rate of $75.00 per month. Councilman Hamby seconded the motion. Councilmen Miller, Hamby, Hager and Reese voted YES. No NO'S. Carried unanimously. Permission was given to Councilman Hamby to erect a sign "Authorized Personnel Only" on the gate J.nto the City flaIl Office. I Permission was given to Mid-State Hauling Co., Inc. to tear down the house on their property South of the office. Councilman Hamby made a motion to pay Adron Claunch for two days. Councilman Hager seconded the motion. Councilmen Hamby, Hager, Miller and Reese voted YES. No NO'S. Carried unanimously. $1.25 per hour Councilman Miller made a motion to pay Bill Hager/to help Mr. Messer while he is reading water meters. Councilman Reese seconded the motion. Councilmen Miller, Reese and I Hamb~ ~oted YES. Councilwoman Hager refrained from voting. Motion was carried. Councilman Reese made a motion to hire Samuel Passero, on the Mayor's reccommendation, as patrolman for the City of Ocoee. Councilman Miller seconded the motion. Councilmen Hamby, Reese, Miller and Hager voted YES. No NO'S. Carried unani- mously. . Councilman Bracewell submitted to the Council a letter of resignation from the Council effective January 15, 1967. Councilman Miller made a motion to regretfully accept his resignation. Councilwoman Hager seconded the motion. Councilmen Hamby, Reese, Miller and Hager voted YES. No NO'S. Carried unanimously. I I I The Clerk was instructed to write Councilman Bracewell a letter of thanks for his fine service to the City of Ocoee. Councilman Bracewell made a recommendation to the City Council that they appoint Harold Maguire to serve his unexpired term of office. No decision was made. Councilman Reese reported that Sam Oliver would show someone how the lots were marked in the new part of the Cemetery. The Clerk was instructed to write a letter of acknowledgement to Mr. Frank Roper to his letter pertaining to property adjoining the Ocoee Gemetery. The Clerk was instructed to write a letter of than~ to Mr. William O'Brien for the Christmas Presents given to the City Officials. "E: letter(~was read from H. M. Bowness stating the prices on his gasoline effective February, 1, 1967 delivered into our equipment at his station or put into a city storage tank in 1,000 gallon loads. No action was taken. Resident of Counc~ THE RECESSED MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OCOEE, FLORIDA HELD JANUARY 9, 1967. Present: Coun.cilwoman Hager, Councilmen: Hamby, Reese, Miller & Mayor Howell Buacewell Absent: None The recessed meeting was called to order by Councilman Brace- well at 7:05 P.M. The Council presented a2copy of the newly adopted City Policies to the city employees and explained them to the employees. Councilman Hager was given permission to have the Ford Panel Truck painted for the Water department at the lowest bid. Councilman Reese reported that rhe brought the City's disc home. Certifine Fruit Co. asked permission to haul their scrap materials to the City dump. Councilman Miller was given permission to make a decision. Councilwoman Hager asked about the possibility of the City adopting the County Plumbing code for the City. No action was taken. The Council agreed to reimburse Councilman Bracewell $25.00 to're- pay him for ~~~ mileage he spent while working on the water department in chlorinating the water and for the clothes he ruined.with chiorine. Councilman Reese reported he had a man's name to write to to have commercial fisherman kept out of Starke Lake. Councilman Reese reported that he had been given information that we could get cross arms donated to us from Southern Bell Telephone Corp.for the Little League lights and that Florida Power Corp. would draw the plans f9r the field. Scotty Vandergrift was to contact Florida Power about the plans and to find out what materials would be donated.
