HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-04-1967 I I I MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OCOEE, FLORIDA HELD APRIL 4, 1967 Present; Councilwoman Hager, Councilmen: Hamby, Reese, Miller & Marsden Mayor Howell Absent: None The meeting was called to order by Councilman Marsden at 7:10 P.M. The minutes of the last regular meeting held March 21, 1967 were read and approved. Councilman Miller made a motion to pay all bills in order. Council- man Reese seconded the motion. H. Malcom to Judge Spencer C. Cross asking if the City would be interessted in purchasing the land in front of Brentwood. No action was taken. Mr. Walter Fritz, of Michaels Engineering Co., reported that we could purchase the strip of land, JO' x 105' on Kissimmee Avenue from the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad for $200.00 to give us enough property to erect the water tank. The City Council discussed borrowing the money for the tank from a bank rather than having a bond issue. Councilwoman Hager made a motion to authorize the engineers to purchase the property from the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad sub- ject to securing the triangler piece of property from Al Hollowell. Councilman Miller seconded the motion. Councilmen Hager, Miller, Reese and Hamby voted YES. No NO'S. Carried unanimously. I Councilwoman Hager made a motion to authorize our engineers to reactivate our application for a grant from the Federal Government to install a sewer system in Ocoee. Councilman Miller seconded the motion. Councilmen Hager, Miller, Reese and Hamby voted YES. No NO'S. Carried unanimously. Our engineers were authorized to secure bids for the 250,000 gallon water tank and date for opening the bids: was set for May 2, 1967 at 7:30 P.M. Councilman Hamby reported that the wiring was completed on the Fire Station. Councilman Reese was to contact Delma Fields to make the City an offer on the land owned by the City on Lot 12, Town of Ocoee. Councilman Miller reported that Franklin Street had been paved. Councilman Hamby reported that the Fire Departments Spaghetti Supper would be hald April 29, 1967 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:JO P.M. I Councilwoman Hager made a motion to accept the low bid~r painting the Fire Station from B. & J. Painting Contractors for $J65.00 under the supervision of Councilmen Hamby and Reese. Councilman Hamby seconded the motion. Councilmen Hager, Miller, Reese and Hamby voted YES. No NO'S. Carried unanimously. Councilman Reese made a motion to purchase a new lawn mower out of the Cemetery Fund. Councilwoman Hager seconded the motion. Council- men Hager, Miller, Reese and Hamby voted YES. No NO'S. Carried unanimously. Councilwoman Hager made a motion to annex the Silver Star Road into the Ocoee City Limits from the existing city limits to just beyond the Brentwood entrance. Councilman Miller seconded the motion. Councilmen Hager, Miller Reese and Hamby voted YES. No NO'S. Carried unanimously. Councilman Reese was to contact Billy Youngblood about cleaning up around their shop. City attorney, Ben Griffin, discussed with the Council about putting in a day nursery on Washington S~reet. There were no objections from the Council members. The Council discussed either buying or leasing radios for the Fire and Police Departments. A representative from Orlando Communications was to be invited to attend our next meeting. City attorney, Ben Griffin, was to check on the tax exemptions for the American Legion lands and properties. Councilman Marsden disrnssed with the Council about installing some type water system in the Ocoee Cemetery. No action was taken. I Delman Fields, who was present at the meetlOng t thO a lS time offered I I I the City $50.00 for the property on Lot 12, Town of Ocoee. His offer was delined. The City asked him for $150.00 - $200.00_for the property. No decision was made. There being no further business Councilman Miller made a motion to adjourn this meeting.
