MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OCOEE, FLORIDA HELD
JANUARY 2, l<;1b~
PRESENT: Councilman Vandergrii't, Hambym Reese, Hager and May.,r Minor.

No;s. Motion carried.
Mr. Pitt Varnes came before the council for the second time asking that
an adjustment be made for taxes on his vacant lots. Council asked
City attorney Hamlin to look into the legalities for making such an
adjustment and promised Mr. Varnes an answer at next regular council
meeting. Mr. Varnes also complained about. property owners (listed
below) dumping garbage and defacing his property. City attorney
Hamlin to write the following property owners regarding this matter.

Councilwoman Hager motioned to renew all Insurance Policies with
Wurst Insurance Co., in the amount of $2,704.50. Councilman Reese
seconded motion. No No's. Motioned carried.
Councilwoman Hager stated the fence around the water tower was completed.
Also, she had talked with Mervin Lee of Florida Power and electricity
would be in by Jan. 2nd or 3rd.
Attorney Hamlin brought resolution for bo~owing money for water tower
in the amount of $100,000.00 Council accepted resolution.
Councilman Reese reported apartment belonging to the city had been
rented to city employee Lamar Matthews for $40.00 per month.
Councilwoman Hager stated something should be done on assessments and
past due taxes. She suggested city attorney take action to collect same.
City Clerk to furnish names of person on past due list.
Councilman Hager would like a report on amount of rent and expenditures
of Youth Center for past 3 years.
Mr. Baker came before the council regarding water conditioning for the
city. The council suggested they wait until the new pump and water tower
is in operation before considering the matter.
Councilwoman Hager asked that "No Truck Parking Sing" be placea on
Bluford Avenue in front of Malt Shop. Council agreed that a "No
Truck Parking beyond this point be erected.
The need for traffic lights at 4 intersections was discussed and
Attorney Hamlin will contact the State Road Dept. as to the posibility
of getting these lights.
Councilman Vandergrift motioned that George Harper be hired for
sanitation department. Councilman Reese seconded motion. No No's
Motion carried.
Councilman Vandergrift motioned that a "Mayor's Action Committee"
be set up fo study the feasibility of city sewerage. This would
consist of 3 to 5 persons appointed by the Mayor and approved by
the Council. Council stated that Michaels Engineering Co's
feasibility studies were sufficient.
Councilman Vandergrift motioned we get name plates for Councilman's
Chairs. Council Hamby seconed motion. No No's. Motion carried.
Councilman Hamby proposed that the city acquire additional property
for the City Cemetery.. Councilwoman Hager stated that the asking
price was too high for available land. No action taken.
Councilman Hamby proposed that the city bring into the corporate
limits that part of Maguire Road and Highway 50 to the overpass over
the expressway be included in the annexation proposal of that portion
of Silver Star Road beyond Brentwood Subdivision. Councilman Reese
stated that other roads should be annexed and Council delayed action
until they confer with City Attorney.
Councilman Hamby motioned that Reserve Police have same privilidges
as regular Police Officers to drive car when on duty, under the
supervision of Mayor Minor and Chief of Police Turner. Councilwoman
Hager seconded motion. No No's. Motion carried.
