HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-23-1968 SS I I I MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL r~ETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OCOEE, FLORIDA HELD: January t!3, 1968 PRESENT: NONE: Councilman Hamby, Hager, Reese, Vandergri1't and Mayor lVdnor. None. Special Meeting was called to order by Mayor Minon 7:30 P. M. Purpose of Special Meeting, to discuss sewerage for the city. Attorney Hamlin read the statutes on sewerage. Mr. Walter Fritz of Micheal Engineering Co., had figures for the sewerage plant. They were as follows: $610,000.00 for section 1, 6, 7, 6-A of the map. $190,000.00 of this would be assess- ments to the property owners at $4.00 per foot. $75,000.00 would be a grant. Leaving the city $350,000.00 at approximately $20,000.00 a year. This would be a HUD loan through Public Health Service. 1'<1r. Fritz called the HUD 01'fice in Atlanta and was sure Ocoee could qualify for this loan. After much discussion, the Council called 1'or a Special Meeting Thursday night, January 2,th, 19b8 at 7:30 P. M. provided city attorney Hamlin and Mr. Fritz could be present. Attorney Ha~in and Mr. Fritz are to get in tough with the city auditor in regard to the possibility of the city being able to afford this amount. Attorney Hamlin and Mr. Fritz agreed to go to Atlanta and contact the HUD office regarding this loan provided the city will pay their plan~fares and pocket expenses. Their being no further business, Councilman Hamby motioned Council adjourn. Counc1lman Reese seconded motion. Thereupon Council adjourned at 9:1b P. M. Attest: Clerk MINUTES OF SPECIAL 1'<ffiETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OCOEE, OCOEE, FLORIDA HELD January 25, 1968 PRESENT: Councilman Hamby, Reese, Vandergrift, Hager and Mayor Minor ABSENT: None Special meeting called to order by 1'<~yor Minor at 6:15 P. M. Purpose of meeting "Sewerage System" for the city. Councilman V~dergrift introduced Mr. Tubbs, principal of the Ocoee High School. Mr. Tubbs stated that in order for the school to expand its facilities it would be necessary to have sewerage. He stated Ocoee had the largest growth in school enrollment of ~ city in Florida. The average being b% with Ocoee 12%. Mr. Murray was present at the Council and stated he was very much I opposed to city sewerage, from sale of bonds. He referred to the city selling bonds 40 years ago and the problems that this brought about. Mr. Robert Wagner, a fiscal agent of the firm of Leedy, Wheeler and Alleman reported to council that he had studied the finaneial feasibility of the sewerage project and that in his opinion it was feasible and a public health need. A resolution to send City Attorney Hamlin and Mr. Walter Fritz representative of Micheal Engineering Co., to Atlanta to investigae the posibility of obtaining a loan from the Department of Housing and Urban Development, to cover the first phase of the sewerage project, at a cost 01' $610,UUO.00 was made. Councilman Hamby motioned that the above resolution be put to a vote. Councilman Vandergrift seconded the motion. Councilman Hamby, Hager and Vandergrift voted yes. Councilman Reese votea no, Mayor Minor askea to go on record as opposing the motion and stated he would not sign the application form to HUD Motion carried by majority vote. \ Attest: Clerk I I
