MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING, CITY OF OCOEE, OCOEE, FLA.
HELD: July 16, 1968
PRESENT: Comm. Hager, Hamby, Reese and Vandergrift
ABSENT: Mayor Minor
Meeting called to order by Vice Mayor Hager at 7:10 P. M. Minutes of last regular
meeting approved.
Cecil Anderson came before council to ask, why he could not get a permit to fence
his property? Atty. Hamlin said city city could issue permit, but would not be
responsible for any lawsuit or trouble from property owners that objected to the
fence. That, should this occur, Mr. Anderson would be entirely responsible.
Mr. Wm. Tomkins brought the report from the Cemetery Committee. Atty. Hamlin read
the report and will draw up an ordinance and submit to the committe for their
approval. The Committee ask permission to go ahead and clean the cemetery. Council
agreed. The Council complimented Mr. Tomkins for his endeavor in getting the Cemetery
Committee started and the fine work they have done.
Mr. E. P. Miller ask the council to do something about dogs. He stated the dogs were
destroying his flower beds, shrubbery and new driveway. He suggested the city adopt
the Leash Law, used in other cities. Atty. Hamlin to check into ramification of said law.
Comm. Reese motioned all bills in order be paid. Comm. Hamby seconded motion. No No's
Motion carried.

Comm. Reese motioned all copies made from copying machine, other than the city,
be charged 25i per sheet. Comm. Hamby seconded motion. No No's. Motion carried.
Comm. Hamby reported he was having ~rouble with dispatchers.

Comm. Vandergrift would like Mayor Minor to make Proclamation for Sheriff's Boys
Ranch Day.
Somm. Hamby presented two bids for city dock. Council thought these bias~should
be itemized. Comm. Hamby to get more information.
Mr. Roper was guest of council and complained about his water bill. City to check
meter reading and meter. Also, Mr. Roper stated he had sold 24 ~cres of land
adjacent to City Cemetery for trailers. The buyers stated they would like to come
into the city, should the city approve plans for trailers. The Council told Mr.
Roper they would considersonly, if the buyers will come in and talke to the council
and submit their plans complete for approval.
Comm. Hager reported on radio for Sam Oliver's truck. Price for 3 units $1,660.40
Motorola single unit $579.00. Tabled until Mayor Minor returns.
Comm. Hager reported she had talked with Ruth Minor and that she would like the part
time job at city hall and could start work Thursday July 18th.
Comm. Vandergrift motioned we hire Ruth Minor for part time work at $1.50 per hour
for 10 days per month. Comm. Hamby seconded motion. No No!s. Motion carried.
Comm. Vandergrift reported the Jaycees were planning parade for Sheriff Ranch Boys
Day at 12;00, August 3rd and would like for the City Officials to participate. Also,
would like permission to use Starke Lake for second Annual Citrus Regatta, which will
be held on Sunday or Monday Sept. 1st or 2nd. Council agreed.
Comm. Vandergrift ask for policy on jury duty for employees called for said duty.
This was shelved for later meeting.
Comm. Reese reported that 3 lights on Ocoee Hills Road, 1 regular sized street light
on Franklin and 1 street light at Jo Haynes on Palm Drive was needed. Council
agreed, only if in city limits.
Comm. Reese ask that a copy of contract price be ppesented to city before issuing
permit to Ramada Inn for swimming pool.
Carolyn Haight called Comm. Hager and informed her she didnot finish first class in
swimming, due to hurricane Abby. However, the Jr. Red Cross Class starting August 5th
for 1 week will be held. Parents will be notified that life guards will not be on
duty at this time. ~ity clerk to write Carolyn Haight and thank her for the work she
has done in giving of her time and effort to teach the children of this ares,
sportmanship and swimming. "1
Comm. Hager reported Perry Johnson had left the water department. She has application
for new man and will interview him Saturday Morning, July 20th.
Comm. Hager reported that compensation insurance would be paid according to the policy
adopted by council 12/66.
Comm. Hamby motioned that the city clerk go strictly according to the personnel policy
adopted De. 1966 by the City Council. Comm. Reese seconded motion. No No's. Motion
carried.
There being no further business, Comm. Hamby motioned meeting adjour~. Comm. Reese
seconded motion. Thereupon meeting of the council adjourned at 9:45 P. M.
