HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-06-1968 I I I MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF OCOEE, OCOEE, FLORIDA HELD: AUGUST 6, 1968 PRESENT: Comm. Hager, Hamby, Reese & Vandergrift ABSENT: Mayor Minor Meeting called to order by Vice Mayor Hager at 7:10 P. M. Dispersed with reading of minutes from last meeting until later. Pat Patterson and a group of residence from Woodmere were here to discuss the annexation of roads and highways requested by the City of Ocoee. Mr. Patterson stated his group had obtained Atty. Kirkland from Orlando to represent them. Atty. Hamlin, City Attorney, explained the reason for the annexation and stated that the City- of Ocoee had no intentions of annexing the land adjacent to the highways, only the road right of way. They stated that Woodmere was in the process of becoming an incorporated community and that they did not want to become a part of Ocoee, Orlando or any municipality. Atty. Hamlin suggested to the council that the city leave out that portion known as Woodmere for the present time. Comm. Hager said she was in agreement only, to Brentwood on Silver Star Road. Woodmere agreed. Atty. Hamlin to get in touch with their attorney Mr. Kirkland. Mrs. Douglas was guest of the council and ask permission to buy license to sell antiques at her residence, 808 Wu~st Road. The council will check restrictions for this area. before issuing said license. Atty. Hamlin to check into plat. Mrs. Douglas to call, Friday for answer. Mr. Bebe with NCR was guest of council to explain the bookkeeping machine system, which the city is interested in purchasing. Mr. Bebe is to check on used or trade-in machines and report the cost of setting up said machines. Mr. Tomkins spoke before the council and stated the Cemetery Committee had spoken to V~. Perry Fitzgerald to work two days a week at $20.00 per week, to clean and mow the Cemetery. He also asked that $2,000.00 from Cemetery Fund be deposited to Certificate Deposit. Comm. Hamby motioned we transfer the $2000.00 from Cemetery Fund to Certificate deposit. Comm. Reese seconded motion. No No's. Motion carried. Comm. Reese motioned we abide by committee's recommendation to hire Perry Fitzgerald 2 days per week at $20.00 per wgek, beginning August 12th. Comm. Hamby seconded motion. No No's. Motion carried. Rusty Johnson, President of Ocoee Jaycees came before the council and ask the City to co=sponsor the SecondCitrus Regatta Monday Sept. 2nd (Labor Day) on Starke Lake. Also; ask the city to buy a full page advertisement at a cost of $100.00. 25% of net profit to go to Edgewood Boy's Ranch. Comm. Hamby motioned that the city co-sponsor with the Ocoee Jaycees the Second Annual Citrus Regatta on Starke Lake, Labor Day, Monday Sept. 2nd 1968. Comm. Vandergrift seconded motion. No No's. Motion carried. Comm. Vandergrift motioned that the city purchase one page advertisement in Citrus Regatta Program at a cost of $100.00. Comm. Hamby seconded. No No's. Motion carried. Comm. Comm. Hamby motioned we pay expense for J. T. Vandergrift to attend the meeting of Seminar in Arson Detection and Investigation in Atlanta, August 5-9, 1968 at a cost of $150.00. Same to be paid out of Fireman budget. Comm. Vandergrift seconded motion. No No's Motion carried. Comm. Vandergrift motioned to authorize Comm. Hamby to have the city dock repaired I at a cost of not more than $300.00. Comm. Hamby seconded. No No's. Motion carried. Comm. Vandergrift motioned to advance Wm. L. Cawley 2 days salary. Comm. Reese seconded motion. No No's Motion carried. Comm. Reese motioned we issue permit for sign to the Ramada Inn, when they furnish contract price for same. Comm. Hamby seconded. No No's. Motion carried. I I I Vice Mayor Hager called for Special Meeting of the Council for Thursday night at 7:00 P. M. There being no further business, Corrm. Reese motioned meeting adjourn seconded. HELD: August 8, 1968 PRESENT: Comm. Hager, Reese, Vandergrift and Hamby ABSENT: Mayor Minor Special meeting called to order by Vice Mayor Hager at 7:13 P. M. Meeting called to determine if the City of Ocoee would annex Lake Shore Gardens into the city, as per plat presented by Comm. Hager, showing streets and 60 ft. canal. Comm. Reese motioned that the city annex Lake Shore Gardens, both parcels A & B subject to the city attorney, Mike Hamlin, working out appropiate sub-division restrictions, water connections agreement and other miscellaneous matters with property owners and their attorney. Comm. Hamby seconded the motion. No No's. Motion carried. Comm. Hamby motioned the city lease 5 to 10 acres of city property to owners of Lake Shore Gardens, under the terms and condition to be agreed upon, by the parties, to install sewerage plant for Lake Shore Gardens. Comm. Vandergrift seconded the motion. No No's. Motion carried. Atty. Hamlin suggested the city abandon highway and road annexation for one month. There being no further business. Comm. Vandergrift motioned Special Meeting adjourn. Comm. Hamby seconded the motion. Thereupon Special Meeting of the council adjourned at 8:15 P. M.
