HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-19-1969 I I I IViINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITy COUNCIL OF THE CITy OF OCOEE, FLORIDA HELD AUGUST 19, 1969 Present: Mayor Minor, Comuissioners Miller, Reese, Stinnett, and Vandergrift Absent: None The meeting'was called to order by Mayor Minor at 7:03 P.M. Camm. Stinnett made a motion to dispense with the reading of the minutes of the last regular council meeting held August 5, 1969. Comm. Reese seconded the motion. The motion was carried. Comm. Miller made a motion to approve all bills in order. Comm. Stinnett seconded the motion. Voted and carried. Several Citizens of Ocoee and interested parties were present at the meeting to protest the City issuing a building permit for a fert- ilizer plant to be built in the City of Ocoee. FROM. Miller reported that they were waiting for the steel to complete the new City barn being built. with Comm. Stinnett reported the meeting/the Cemetery Committee had been postponed until next meeting. Comm. Miller made a motion to authorize attorney Michael Hamlin to order the City tax rool from Orange County. Comm. Stinnett seconded the motion. Comms. Stinnett, Miller, Reese and Vander- grift voted YES. No NO~S. Carried unanimously. . Comm. Miller was authorized to get bids on fixing the dock on Starke Lake. Gomm. Miller reported he was offered $62.00 for the City's disc harrow. Comm. Reese wanted to wait until he could get a bid from another person before they sold it. Comm. Stinnett made a motion to have our attorney contact r1rs. Stoutenburgh to find an explanation for the amount of the check she received from the City on July 15, 1969. Comm. ~liller sec- onded the motion. Comm. Stinnett, Miller and Reese voted YES. Comm. Vandergrift voted NO. Motion was carried. I I I I Mr. Richard Garlington was present to ask for an occupational license for a retail nursery on South Bluford Avenue. Comm. Reese made a motion to table this until the prople in the area are EMH** contacted to see if there are any objections. ~10tion died for lack of a second. Comm. Vandergrift made a motion to issue the license until January 1, 1970. Comm. Miller seconded the motion. Cornm. IJIiller, Stinnett, Reese and Vandergrift. voted YES. No No'S. Carried unanimously. Cornm. Miller made a motion to discontinue the combining of our voting with the County until it becomes a law in 1971. Comm. Stinnett seconded the motion. Cornm. Miller, Stinnett, Reese and Vandergrift voted YES. No NO'S. Carried unanimously. The Clerk \'las instructed to contact Nr. L. C. Pepper and ask that he 'mow his property in Ocoee located behind Mrs. Eleanor Vander- grifts house. Comm. lfdller made a motion to issue a building permit to I~. Frank Roper for a fertilizer plant to be built just off Maguire Road. Motion died for lack of a second. Comm. Stinnett made a motion to reconsider our decision of the last meeting. Comm. Reese seconded the motion. Comm. STinnett and Reese voted YES. Cornm. Vandergrift and lfdller and Mayor T-linor voted NO. It.ation was not carried. Comm. Miller made a motion to issue the building permit for the fertilizer plant. Comm. Vandergrift seconded the motion. Comm. 1',liller, Vandergrift and JiIayor r~inore voted YES. Comm. Reese and Stinnett voted NO. Motion was carried. Mayor ~linor recommended to the co~~issioners to hire ~~s. Anna M. Dodge for the assistant City Clerk. Co~~. Reese made a motion to hire Mrs. Dodge for the position and that she be bonded. Comm. Niller seconded the motion. Comm. Reese, Stinnett, Miller and Vandergrift voted YES. No NO'S. Carried unanimously. Comm. Miller made a motion that the City buy an add in the Ocoee High School Annual. Comm. Stinnett seconded the motion. Comm. Hiller, Stinnett, Vandergrift and Reese voted YES. No NO"S. Carried unanimously. Co~~. Stinnett made a motion to pass a resoltuion to have Mutual Police Protection lrith the surrounding Cities. Comm. Reese seconded the motion. Comm. Stinnett, r~iller, Reese and Vandergrift voted YES. No NO'S. Carried unanimously. Comm. Miller made a motion to let Sid Reeves move the fire truck tank from where the new barn is being built. Comm. Reese seconded the motion. Comm. ~liller, Reese, Stinnett and Vandergrift voted YES. No. No's. Carried unanimously. Comm. Reese made a motion to adopt Ordinance #505 being an ordinance of the City of Ocoee, Florida, annexing a certain tract of unincor- porated land lying contiguous to the municipal boundaries of the City of Ocoee and si tua ted in Orange County, Florida, to-lri t: From the Northwest corner of Section 29, To~mship 22 South, Range 28 East, Orange County, Florida, Run 00039'00" E 74.36 feet along the west boundary of said Section 29; then N 89040'lOll E 52.41 feet for the point of beginning, said point of beginning being the point of intersection of the easterly right of way line of Maguire Road with the Southerly right of way line of State Road No. 50; thence run N 89040'10" E 200.00 feet along said Southerly right-of way line of State Road No. 50; thence S 00022'3411 it1175.00 feet; thence S 89040'lOll W 200.00 feet to a point on the aforesaid Easterly right of i'lay line of l:1aguire Road; thence N 00022'3411 E 175.00 feet to the point of beginning. Containing: 0.834 acres. Comm. Stinnett seconded the motion. Comm. Stinnett, Miller, Vandergrift and Reese voted YES. No NO'S. Carried unanimously. Ted Michaelson appeared before the Council to ekplain how zoning would help Ocoee and how to:get started irith a zoning ordinance. He is to appear at the next meeting with more information. Each member of the Council was to being someone with them to serve on the zoning board. The Mayor received a letter from the new principal of the Ocoee High School and was read at the meeting. I Comm. Reese was authorized to have the water main put under the Railroad at Maguire Road by the company installing fu e Telephone cable. There bang no further business Councilman Miller made a motion to adjourn this meeting. Comm. Vandergrift seconded the motion. I Thereupon Council adjourned at 9:38. P.M. Attest: (?~NL ~ Clerk I
