HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-19-1974 MINUTES OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OCOEE HELD FEBRUARY 19, 1974 I PRESENT. ABSENT: MAYOR VANDERGRIFT, COMMS. CRAWFORD, HAMBY, HARPER, AND LYLE NONE 1. MEETING was called to order at 7.30 p.m. with an offering of prayer followed by the Pledge Allegiance. Minutes of the last meeting were read. Comm. Harper made a motion to accept minutes as read, seconded by Comm. Lyle. Unanimou~. 4. Girl Scouts. Mrs. Poe came before council asking that the City of Ocoee sponsor the Girl Scout Troop #436 for the year of 1974. Motion was made by Comm. Lyle to grant said request, seconded by Comm. Hamby. Unanimous. Comm. Lyle made a motion instructing the City Manager to have petitions built in the ladies rest room at the Youth Center, seconded by Comm. Harper. Unanimous 3. On behalf of the council and citizens of Ocoee Mayor Vandergrift pre- sented plaques to Hubert Fox, Frank Turner, John Carter, Lewis Whitehead, and Raymond Crawford for their outstanding services to the community. The Mayor also read a proclamation thanking the five men. Comm. Lyle made a motion to adopt said proclamation, seconded by Comm. Hamby. Unanimous. I 5. Comm. Lyle made a motion to join the West Orange Chamber of Commerce and to pay the yearly fee of 5150., seconded by Comm. Hamby. Unanimous. 6. Mr. Folsom of Bel-Airs cams before council questioning a bill he had receiv;a-from the City for $l3,116.45 for his share of the paving of White Road. After much discussion Comm. Crawford moved to table said discussion and to hold a Special Meeting on said subject 26 February 1974, seconded by Comm. Hamby. Unanimous. 7. Hodes Construction sent the City a letter confirming a proposed agreement giving the City $2300. for the paving of the north 9' of Flewelling Rd. After much discussion Comm. Lyle made a motion instructing the City Attorney to write a letter disputing said agreement and requesting a representative from Hodes attend the Special Meeting 26 February 1974, seconded by Comm. Hamby. Unanimous. 9. Roger Johnson of the Civil Service Commission came before council requesting that they select five persons from a list submitted to them to serve on said board as soon as possible. Comm. Lyle made a motion to appoint John Boyd, Butch Cash and Roger Johnson, seconded by Comm. Hamby. Unanimous. IIcomm. Harper made a motion to appoint John N. Carter, seconded by Comm. Hamby. Unanimous. Comm. Hamby made a motion to appoint Curtis Lynch, seconded by Comm. Crawford. Unanimous. (2 ) I 2. City Manager read Annexation Ordinance of the James Jaros property on 203 Ocoee Hills Road. Comm. Harper made a motion to adopt said Ordinance, I seconded by Comm. Hamby. Unanimous. Ordinance adopted. . 10. Zoing Change on Lyman street from Rl to R31 After much discussion on the pros and cons from Mr. Spurlin of said area and Mr. Coffman the builder, Comm. Harper made a motion to accept the Planning & Zoning Boards recommendation and change said zoning, seconded by Comm. Crawford. Comms. Harper & Crawford voted yea, Comms. Hamby & Lyle and the Mayor voted ney. Request denied. Mayor Vandergrift suggested that each councilman bring a list of at least five streets that in their opinion needed paving to the next meeting. The Mayor read a Resolution on Investigating Joint Police Communications. Comm. Lyle moved to adopt said resolution, seconded by Comm. Harper. Unanimous. Comm. Lyle informed council that Mr. Broadway of Indian Lake Fruit Co. had expressed his heartfelt thanks to the Fire Dept. for their efforts in saving said companys' building. The Mayor reported that the Opening baseball game for the Ocaee Cardinals was to be held 22 February 1974. MAYOR Vandergrift declared the meeting adjourned at 9110 p.m. I s~ CITY C~ K c- G ~-- Mayor I
