HomeMy WebLinkAbout12-17-1974 MINUTES OF THE CITY COMMISSION MEETING OF THE CITY OF OCOEE HELD DECEMBER 17,1974 III PRESENT: MAYOR VANDERGRIFT, COMM. CRAWFORD, LYLE, WHITEHEAD AND STINNETT ABSENT: NONE I I 1. Meeting was called to order at 7:40 p.m. with an offering of prayer from Julian Revels (Commissioner from Winter Garden), followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Minutes of the last meeting were read. Comm. Stinnett stated that the minutes should reflect the reason he abstained from voting on the payment of dues to the East Central Florida Planning Council was because he did not know enough about the organization and its operation to cast a vote. Comm. Lyle made a motion to accept minutes as amended, seconded by Comm. Whitehead. Unanimous. 2. A resolution thanking Jim Turner for his services to the community was read by the Mayor. Comm. Whitehead made amotion to adopt said resolution, seconded by Comm. Crawford. Unanimous. A plaque and a copy of the resolution was presented to Jim Turner. The Mayor read a resolution of thanks to Archie Davis, Inc.. Comm. Crawford moved to adopt said resolution, seconded by Comm. Stinnett. Unanimous. The resolution and a plaque was accepted on behalf of Archie Davis, Inc. by John Davis, Jr. and Esco Green. 3. Youth Council By-Laws, Betty Hager; After much discussion the subject was tabled and a work session was scheduled for January 14, 1975. Jim Morton came before council thanking them for the quick action received on the street lights and the mowing of the unimproved property in his area. Mr. Morton also reminded council that street lights were still needed on Vandergrift and Hamlin Drive. Comm. Stinnett moved to accept General Electric's bid on the new communication system for the Fire Department, seconded by Comm. Crawford. Unanimous. Comm. Crawford made a motion to pay Nix Brothers paving for Flewelling St. repairs $850.00 from General Fund acct#7030, seconded by Comm. Whitehead. Unanimous. Motion was made by Comm. Stinnett to appoint Comm. Lyle as the Chamber of Commerce representative, seconded by Comm. Whitehead. Unanimous. Member appointment to the East Central Florida Planning Council was tabled. Motion was made by Comm. Crawford to pay the city auditor fee of $3,500.00($2000. from General Govt#3012 and $1,500. from Water 0 & M Fund #1315),seconded by Comm. Stinnett. Unanimous. Comm. Stinnett made a motion to pay Municipal Code Corp. $1 ,500.00 from General Govt #3099, seconded by Comm. Crawford. Unanimous. Comm. Stinnett made a motion to pay the city engineering fee of $4,492.36 from Tank Const. fund, seconded by Comm. Crawford. Unanimous. The City Hall will be closed 24 & 25 of December for Christmas. Court will be held on Monday the 23rd of December. Comm. Stinnett made a motion to give a New Years Eve party for employees and their guest, seconded by Comm. Lyle. Unanimous. Comm. Crawford and Stinnett are to check with the Ramada Inn about the possibilities of holding the party at their establishment. There is to be a work session with the Recreation Director and any other recreational committees in the City on January 2, 1975. Comm. Lyle made a motion to give all City employees (excluding commissioners and appointed committees) a $10.00 christmas bonus, seconded by Comm. Whitehead. Unanimous. 4. The City Manager briefed council on the audit report. Comm. Stinnett moved to accept, seconded by Comm. Crawford. Unanimous. Comm. Crawford stated that the City Auditor said the City should retire old street bonds. After much discussion the City Manager was instructed to contact the attorney and take steps to call in the old bonds. Comm. Stinnett made a motion to appoint Sylvia A. Gann as City Clerk, seconded by Comm. Lyle. Unanimous. I I I (2) The City Manager is to contact six banks on their rates of interest and ask them for a letter confirming the rates. The City Manager ask for permission to close City Hall at during the noon hour on Monday, December23, 1974 in order for him to take his office employees to lunch. Permission granted.
