HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-18-1975 I MINUTES OF THE CITY COMMISSION MEETING OF THE CITY OF OCOEE HELD MARCH 18, 1975 PRESENT: MAYOR VANDERGRIFT, COMM. LYLE,CRAWFORD,STINNETT AND WHITEHEAD. ABSENT: NONE I 1. Meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. with an offering of prayer, followed by the pledge of allegiance. Minutes of the previous meeting were read. Comm. Lyle moved to accept minutes as read with a copy of the forthcoming brochure from Prudential Insurance Co. attached as part of the minutes, seconded by Comm. Stinnett. Unanimous. Minutes of the Public Hearing were read. Comm. Lyle moved to accept as read, seconded by Comm. Stinnett. Unanimous. Minutes of the Planning and Zoning Board were read. Comm.Crawford moved to accept as read, seconded by Comm. Stinnett. Unanimous.Motion was made and seconded unanimously to amend the agenda, placing item #3 the next order of business. 3. Mr. Charles Satterfield, President of the Girls Softball League came before council requesting one section of bleachers for said league. After much discussion Comm. Lyle moved to grant said request not to exceed $650, seconded by Comm. Whitehead. Unanimous. The City Manager was directed to check with Wurst Insurance Agency to see if a person that fell off of City owned bleachers that were placed on private property was covered or not. 2. Cooperation Agreement between City of Ocoee and Orange County: Comm. Lyle moved to accept agreement, seconded by Comm. Whitehead. Comm. Lyle, Whitehead and Stinnett voted yea, Comm.Crawford nay. Motion carried. 4. Annexation Zoning: There was much discussion as to the annexation of properties along the road right of ways in the city. The City Attorney stated that any properties along the road right of ways described in the City Charter could be legally annexed. Comm. Lyle moved to accept the recommenda- tion of the Planning Zoning Board verbatim. Motion died for lack of a second. City Manager recommended that Mr. Thomas's motion pertaining to the annex- ation of the road right of way on Silver Star Road from Orange Ave. to the east side of Brentwood be considered. After much discussion Comm. Whitehead moved to annex Silver Star Road from Orange Avenue to the East side of Brentwood with complete road right of way, seconded by Comm. CrawfordDnanimQu~ City Manager stated the county should be notified of the above. Council instructed City Manager to do so. Comm.Stinnett moved to accept the zoning recommendations of the Planning and Zoning Board on the parcels of land that could be legally annexed and water a~d sanitation services of those persons that refused to annex be discontinued as of April 15, 1975, seconded by Comm. Whitehead. Unanimous. There was a letter from Linton Deck (Superintendent of Orange County schools) thanking the Police Department for their help in the recent disturbance at Ocoee High School. City Attorney stated that persons holding office on July 1, 1974 who were not candidates for re-election or election between July 1, 1974 and December 31, 1974 must file a financial disclosure statement no later than 12:00 noon on May 15, 1975. Comm. Lyle stated he would like to publically thank the Ocoee Lions Club for the use of their trailer at the fish fry held to benefit the Little League. . Chief of Police stated that the Sanford Crime lab is in financial difficulties and they were requesting that the city adopt a resolution to be sent to the State Legislature requesting their aid. Comm. Lyle moved to adopt said resolution, seconded by Comm. Whitehead. Unanimous. The Chief also I ~--- W" .. ~ (2) . .,. I stated that a Bike Race and Rally would be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. to benefit the Choir. Mayor stated the Ocoee Choir would like to show their appreciation to council by performing for them: There are about 46 members in the choir and the Mayor suggested moving the council meeting to the school library which would be available for the 1 April meeting. Comm.Lyle objected to the moving . of the meeting place, he further stated he would be more than glad to go to the school for the choir's performance either before or after the council meeting. Mayor gave council a brief sumation on the League of Cities meeting held recently in Tallahassee. The Mayor stated he would give a more formal report at a later date.
