RESOLUTION NO. 94-06

A RESOLUTION TO THE ORANGE COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD
REGARDING COMMUNITY SCHOOLS
WHEREAS, the City of Ocoee is committed to fostering a sense of community
for the residents of the City of Ocoee; and
WHEREAS, the City of Ocoee provides recreational activities to its youth as part
of its efforts to foster a sense of community among the residents of the City of Ocoee; and
WHEREAS, the residents of the Richfield, Coventry, Parkside, Hidden Glen,
Johio Bay, and Carriage Oaks Subdivisions, all of which are located in the City of Ocoee, have
advised the City Commission of the City of Ocoee that the Orange County School Board is
considering a redistricting proposal which would send the youth of these subdivisions to
Robinswood Middle School; and
WHEREAS, the youth of these subdivisions currently attend Spring Lake
Elementary School and West Orange High School; and
WHEREAS, Ocoee City Commission and the residents of these subdivisions
believe that the redistricting proposal will be destructive to the sense of community which both
the City and the residents have worked hard to create, will be disruptive of friendships which
have been created among the youth of Ocoee and will not be in the best interests of the youth
of the City of Ocoee or the community; and
WHEREAS, the Ocoee City Commission strongly believes that the Richfield,
Coventry, Parkside, Hidden Glen, Johio Bay, and Carriage Oaks Subdivisions should be placed
in the school district for Ocoee Middle School and that such redistricting will serve the best
interests of the young residents of these subdivisions.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT UNANIMOUSL Y RESOLVED BY THE
CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OCOEE THAT:
(1) The Ocoee City Commission strongly opposes any school redistricting plan
which would place the Richfield, Coventry, Parkside, Hidden Glen, Johio Bay, and Carriage
Oaks Subdivisions in the school district for Robinswood Middle School; and
.
(2) The Ocoee City Commission strongly urges the Orange County School Board
to place Richfield, Coventry, Parkside, Hidden Glen, Johio Bay, and Carriage Oaks Subdivisions
in the school district for Ocoee Middle School; and
(3) The Ocoee City Commission urges the Orange County School Board to
recognize that a vibrant and growing community exists in the City of Ocoee and that the youth

of this community are best served by attending community schools such as Spring Lake
Elementary, Ocoee Middle School, and West Orange High School, where they will have the
opportunity to become active members of our community.
