A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF OCOEE, FLORIDA, PROTESTING THE
PROPOSED CLOSING OF THE CIVIL AND CRIMINAL SECTIONS OF THE
CRIMINAL DIVISION OF THE WEST ORANGE COURT ANNEX
WHEREAS, the West Orange Services Building was constructed
in the early seventies to house those offices designed to serve
the needs of citizens in West Orange County, and
WHEREAS, since that time the Orange County Court Annex has
been a vital part of the services provided at this location, and
WHEREAS, the County Court Judge assigned to the
courthouse located in the West Orange Services Building
civil cases and criminal cases, and

hears
WHEREAS, the citizens in West Orange County have not taken
lightly the privilege of having a County Court Judge assigned to
resolve their local problems at a local level, and
WHEREAS, the Honorable Emerson R. Thompson, Jr. proposes to
move the civil and criminal court cases from this facility to be
heard in downtown Orlando, and
WHEREAS, such action will cause gross inconvenience to those
professional people and citizens involved in court actions and an
especial hardship to those citizens who must rely on public
transportation, and
WHEREAS, because of the phenomenal growth in this area, the
number of those persons adversely affected by such a move will be
multiplied many times over in the immediate future, and
WHEREAS, government is charged with the responsibility of
protecting the rights and privileges of its citizens, and
WHEREAS, it is the desire of this Commission to continue to
provide the citizens of this area with the quality of service that
has historically been provided.

NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Board of City
Commissioners of the City of Ocoee as follows:
That the Board of City Commissioners of the City of Ocoee
protests the proposed moving of the civil and criminal sections of
the criminal division of the West Orange Court Annex, and requests
that the Honorable Emerson R. Thompson, Jr. reverse his decision
to do so.
