HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 90-08 (City of Winter Garden) (East-West Express Toll) "'-"./ . ~ RES 0 L UTI 0 N 90 - 08 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF WINTER GARDEN, FLORIDA, RELATING TO THE ORLANDO EAST-WEST EXPRESSWAY AUTHORITY AS CREATED BY; EXPRESSING CONCERN TO THE CURRENf RATES BEING CHARGED BY THE "AUTHORITY". ' BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF WINTER GARDEN, FLORIDA: WHEREAS, the ORLANDO EAST-WEST EXPRESSWAY AUTHORITY was organized under the laws of the State of Florida to build and 1/ . operate a roadway (The East-West Expressway) and subsequent expansions, which roadway is to provide a faster, alternate route for traffic traveling to and from the East and West side of Orlando and to provide the means to ease the traffic congestion on State Road 50; and \ , WHEREAS, the East-West Expressway is the only alternate to State Road 50 or congested "back roads" for the citizens of the City of Winter Garden wishing to travel between the East and West sides of Metro-Orlando; and WHEREAS, commuters traveling between the North and South sides of Metro-Orlando have Interstate 4 which is toll-free major highway; and WHEREAS, commuters traveling between the East and West side of Metro-Orlando area have no other major alternative routes to the congested State Road 50; and . WHEREAS, the citizens of the City of Winter Garden who are desirous of utilizing the East-West Expressway are outraged at the exorbitant toll charges imposed by the Authority; and . WHEREAS, the City Commission of Winter Garden feels that the toll charges are not in proportion~ the mileage traveled in . . ~(~ comparison~ other toll charges for the usage of roadways, such as the Florida Turnpike; and WHEREAS, the City of Winter Garden wishes to express its concern of the tolls being charged by the expressway authority. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the City of Winter Garden through its City Commission hereby expres~?its concern and opposition ~ the amounts of the toll charges for usage of the East-West Expressway. The City of Winter Garden represents that these current toll charges present ~~ an und~ hardship on the citizens of -the City of Winter Garden and 1 . \ \ . ~. . J- that the amount of such tolls cause discrimination against the poor by effectively eliminating their access to one of only two major thoroug~faces from West Orange County to Orlando which is .\ the. Magnolia Ave. Orlando, FL 32801 Dear Chairman West, Enclosed please find a copy of our Resolution #90-08 which was unanimously adopted by the Board of Commissioners of the City of Winter Garden on November 8, 1990. This Resolution expresses their concerns and opposition to the current rates being charged for usage of the East-West Expressway. They are of the opinion that these current charges present an undo hardship on the citizens of Winter Garden and that the amount of such tolls cause discrimination against the poor by effectively eliminating their access to one of only two major thoroughfares from West Orange County to Orlando. They respectively request that the Orlando-Orange County Expressway Authority reconsider the current toll charges and reduce these charges to a more reasonable amount.
