A RESOLUTION AMMENDING ORDINANCE
NUMBER 639, OF THE CITY OF OCOEE,
FLORIDA, WHICH CONTROLS AND REGU-
LATES MECHANICAL CONTRACTORS AND
MECHANICAL INSTALLATIONS, BY
CHANGING THE STANDARDS ADOPTED
FROM THOSE OF THE SOUTHERN STAN-
DARD MECHANICAL CODE, 1973 EDITION,
TO THOSE OF THE STANDARD MECHANICAL
CODE, 1979 EDITION, AND PROVIDING
FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of City Commissioners of the City of
Ocoee, Florida, as follows:
Section 1. That Section Forty One of Ordinance number 639 be
amended to read as follows:
"SECTION FORTY ONE. Standards Adopted. There is
hereby adopted by the City for the purpose of
establishing and prescribing installations,
extension, repair, alteration, maintenance and
removal of all mechanical systems and devices
within the jurisdiction of the City, those certain
standards known as the Standard Mechanical Code,
1979 Edition, and other regulations that may be
adopted by resolution of the Board of City Com-
missioners.
"In no case shall any insulation be installed which
is of itself combustible or is covered with a
combustible material.
"In every case where no specific type or class of
materials, or no specific standards of construction
are prescribed herein, then conformity with the
reference standards as listed in the Appendix of the
American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air
Conditioning Engineers Standards shall be prima facie
evidence of conformity with approved standards of
construction for safety to health, life and property.
"Suspension of air handling units, furnaces or similar
equipment in attics must be from top chord of trusses
with properly designed hanger to support the load.
"All such units must have an emergency drain pan two
(2") inches wider than unit on all sides and two(2")
inches in depth installed underneath the unit; A
drain not smaller than three-fourths inch in diameter
from this pan must terminate at a readily visible point
outside the building or approved suitable safety switch
in the drain pan.

"A service platform not less than two (2') feet wide by
six (6') feet, zero (0") inches, long shall be provided
on the service side of the equipment connected to the
attic access by not less than two(2') feet,zero (0")
inches, wide by one-half inch thick wood walk.
"The installing contractor shall ascertain that roof
framing or existing building is capable of safely
carrying the opera ting wei gh t of the equipmen t to be se t . "
Section 2.That this resolution shall be effective immediately
upon passage by the Board of City Commissioners of the City of
Ocoee, Florida.
Done and Resolved at the regular meeting of the Board of
City Commissioners held on May 6, 1980.
